Hi, hope you don't mind me joining in. New to saving :) when I had a high paying job was pretty much spend spend spend (on credit cards aswell). Now I'm debt free I'm looking to start saving but only on £14,500 + bonus & over time but not many out goings. Will update later :)

well done on getting debt free, and good for u starting saving
Am in similar position, only just paid off debts and about to start saving for first time in my life. Good luck
    Savings target by December 2011:
    ISA: 5100
    Child trust fund: 1200
    Instant Access: 1400
    Credit Union: 300
  • Well made some big changes this week to my savings:
    • Transfered ISA from Lloyds @ 2.5% to Halifax @ 3%
    • Added Vantage to Classic account with Lloyds @ 4%
    • Distributed matured 10k Northern Rock bond to AA and Santander e-savers @ 2.8% (and above Vantage account)
    • Opened Natwest e-saver @ 2.85% to build up £5,100 2011-2012 Cash ISA allowance come April 2011
After just over 12 years of full time employment (now under 15k a year) I've saved £64,000 (by end of this October) and have calculated that I will recieve approx £150 a month net interest from November onwards.

Next big thing will be February 2011 when my three year NS&I Inflation Index Linked Savings matures - will re-invest I think as the term I had was a good interest rate (will max it out if possible).

You are my hero! If I met you in real life I would buy you a pint!:T

Yes. Just make sure you aren't tied in (fixed rate product and such) as you could lose interest.

Yes. All the usual caveats apply, i.e. no tie in period from your current provider, no restrictions from your new provider, etc, etc.

  • Hi all, I thought I'd join in with this savings lark!

I'm currently saving up for a house deposit. I've just managed to hit my original £15,000 target, so I'm going to extend it to £20,000.

I should be in a position to consider buying next year, so I'm going to see how close to my target I can get :D

  • Hi all,
I've just taken the plunge and set up some savings accounts, I won't be putting as much in for now as some but as I've never saved in my life (hangs head in shame) this is a great start. So, each month I'm going to put £50 away and if I have more left over I'm sending it all in. I'm very excited about this I must say! :)

    Hi all

Belated end-of-Sept update from me (was on hols)! I'm up to £39,245 - almost £1,000 saved in Sept but that includes back pay. This is less than I would have liked, but I have lost over £400 in the CCE collapse so that will set me back, as I had been buying euros for a trip next month. I also gave my mum some money for something that she needed. Still, I aim to get as close as poss to £42,000 by the end of the year. I can do it!

Well done all of you, especially those who have reached their targets and are increasing them. I salute you!

    Off to update my sig.
