Still waiting for my new ISA to be opened and no doubt I'll have to wait even longer for my money to be transferred. In the meantime, I've got just over £205 set aside to go in once it's all up and running. I'm applying for some part-time jobs to try to get myself a more regular income as the freelancing is all too hit-and-miss at the bottom and I'd like to be saving more but no luck so far.ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0

Hi there,
Long time lurker here and i've finally decided to join up :j
I'm 26 years old, I bought my first house with my partner 4 months ago, so my savings took a massive hit! I currently have just under £10,500 between two Santander ISAs, £9100 in a 2.75%, and £1360 in a 3.25% ISA. When i bought my house, i also changed job to something with lower pay, but better prospects, and better pay over the original job after 12 months.
At the moment, I'm only managing to save £25-£50 every two weeks (i get paid every two weeks), which I think is quite low and ideally, i'd like to save double that, but with the new house, there is always something. Paint, getting new carpets, we're also having some original flooring restored and the boiler broke after the first month! Nightmare, but on the upside, we saved for 6 weeks whilst it was still summer and warm and just used our electric shower (i've never appreciated hot water so much!).
Anyway, don't really know where i was going with all that, just thought that i'd introduce myself and say hello!:D0 -
In other news, we're now engaged  so I have a wedding to plan, but we're only having a small do (in true MSE style) so it's not costing us tens of thousands
Suze
Many congratulations on your engagement. This may sound weird, but I think I want to be you! My bf is never going to marry me and my savings are going backwards. So, you're my idol.
Creepy bit over...
Since I last updated my sig I've written off my car. I can't see myself saving anything in the next year, let alone reaching my target by Jan 2012. How fabulous.Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012
Progress May-08 19.0%; May-09 40.0%; May-10 63.0%; May-11 58.4%; Jun-11 58.5%; Jul-11 58.9%; Aug-11 58.7%; Sep-11 59.0%

Aw Lucy, (long time no speak!) are you ok? Hope it's only the car that was damaged. Don't give up, I'm sure you can still make your target. You've got two years yet!
I've finally graduated and have jobs! Not a lot of income by any means but it'll do. To be more specific I have a shall we say more legitimate job starting next month so wages going into my account, I bank with RBS, so I thought now would be a good time to change to avoid becoming a Santander customer.
Decided to go with Lloyds TSB, there's a branch nearby, were really good when dealing with my grandma's estate so positive experiences and of course I can get a Vantage account.
In a big step for me I'm going to close my 2.7% ISA and put it all in my Vantage account, I won't earn enough this year at least to pay tax, so the 4% easilly beats it by a long way, and next year if I am lucky enough to be a tax payer I can open an ISA then and take advantage of both. I have £5.5k in savings so I'll get 4% on the lot, and it'll be paid monthly which for some reason really appeals.
So I had a bit of a break from the saving thing last year as I had too many expenses to make any significant savings, but as I say I now have a steady income so hopefully I'm going to be back into the old savings and posting here regularly again“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Savings Dave thats a really great respecatable amount you have saved. Iv sorted my debt out..soon i will have the post saying im complete debt free! Then il have a large surplus of cash each month ready for saving! Looking at saving about £20k to move out and buy a house with my gf...She will match this.
Im hoping to buy in about 3 and a half years, when i turn 23...so about 42 months to save £20k=£477 a month... Easy do-able for my salary! Especially with it doubling in the summer when i serve my time! Also got a few homers coming up so should have a few thousand in saved by xmas!! I think il buy when i hit the £20k rather than when i turn 23....
The thing is when i turn 20 in the summer il be on a much better salary than i am now...so the £477 a month wont be the only savings im doing. Il also be aiming to save £5k a year so about £100 a week for at least 5 years - until im 25 so il have at least £25k as a safety net! It seems like its not been long since i was 13 - 6 years ago...so itl be no time at all and il be 25. If im in my own house, paying my mortgage with a safe amount of savings(£20k+) and decent income then i can think about marrage and a family of my own...Or even starting up my own business!
Got it all sussed guysWork in progress...Update coming July 2012.
