    Hi everyone

Welcome to the thread MissBes - I opened a First Home Saver with Natwest about 18 months ago - havent had any problems - I can access it online and in branch.

Seems that everyone is doing well with savings :T

Hmm I wonder why mine isn't online? Did it just 'appear' with your internet banking or did you have to add it yourself?

Off work sick today so feeling rough but on the plus side I have sorted out my money as it's payday! This is the first month on my new salary so for once I can add a fair(ish) amount to my savings!
£70 to my account for yearly expenses (car tax, vet bills etc)
£100 to my first home saver
    £108 to my ISA
Not loads but a lot for me :j Next month I will get paid for a lot of overtime so hopefully will be able to double what I've saved this month. I feel as if I'm finally getting somewhere!

Well done everyone else on your totals:T

    Anyway, back to bed...

Renovation fund... what renovation fund? Emergency fund 40% Future fund... ongoing...
  • Hi everyone,

I'm back! It's all quiet on the western front due to the recent first time house buy, which all went well apart from obliterating my savings :( What with bills, mortgage etc. to pay (thankful I didn't do it alone, my BF pays a massive chunk towards the aforementioned), my savings have scaled down quite a bit to those frantic deposit-saving times. Currently I'm putting away £22 a month towards car tax and MOT, and £25 per month towards the farrier. I also pay a modest £50 per month into a regular saver to form something of a pension. After all this boring stuff, if I have any leftover cash I can shove that in my ISA, although if anything it's only £50.

So I'm feeling a bit downtrodden with savings at the moment. I love saving, and it feels pants just saving small amount (some or which is short term). Ah well, I'm off to update my signature.
  • So money moving day today - total now is £4147 or approximately 63% of where I want to be.

Good news - I got my £100 switching bonus from Santander
Bad news - my car insurance is due soon, haven't had my renewal through yet but I went online to get some quotes and the cheapest so far is £730! Last year was £420 - it's the same car, I haven't moved, no accidents, claims or points! I put some money aside but not that much

Yay. Finally an update transferred £350 into my savings today, not a lot but at least its not all spendings this month. Off to figure out my percentage as I done think my savings chart and bank account agree and I can't figure out why...

...No they do match up pretty closely just my memeory and poor ability with numbers made them seem different.

Geez albacookie, not heard of insurance going up that much. Definitely recheck as that's a ludicrous amount of money, especially since nothing has changed.

Well this is my first monthly update and I have finally sorted out my finances transfered my old Isa into a new one with a better interest rate and also managed to put an extra £500 in my emergency savings and £1000 in this years Isa allowance so it was a very good month.
Work has also extended my contract for an extra 3 weeks so I'm hoping to save alot of this to use while I'm searching for a job. so fingers crossed I can get a job and start it as soon as my current contract ends.
    Emergency Fund £2900/£5000 (58%)
    Credit Card Debt (0%) savings £1200/£5195 (23.1%)
    Mortgage £47,100 end date 09/2046
Goal 1 - full emergency fund - ASAP
    Goal 2 - Credit card debt savings £3000 - by Jan 15

    Goal 3 - Mortgage overpayments £4000 - by June 15

Hey, hope you're all OK. I know I haven't posted in the best part of a year!

We bought our house last year - I'd managed to save £106k by then, and put £90k into the house. So did bf.

We figured out how much we'd both put into the joint account to cover the mortgage, bills etc and, after that's all sorted, I find myself saving approximately £1k per month. So now I have £27k saved.

I no longer look at the best savings rates as all my savings and spare cash are offset against the mortgage.

In other news, we're now engaged  so I have a wedding to plan, but we're only having a small do (in true MSE style) so it's not costing us tens of thousands :)

Not such a great update for me this month - my savings are going backwards!

Still, we did just spend £2k on the first part of our honeymoon and are moving into a new (rented) flat. That will be eating another £1,500 :(

Anyhoo, you can't beat a bit of personal space (even if it does come at a financial cost). I'm going mad staying with my in-laws.
