Worcester Depot number gives the message, "this line does not accept incoming calls", not too useful. Should I visit or go elsewhere? (This question is a bit rhetorical, I'm thinking about it.

I used the Council MOT Centre in Leeds. The service was excellent and perhaps because the car is a XJ8 convertible, I had half the workforce round to inspect it. Nice change for them from Council dumper trucks. We had the roof up and down a few times before I left! Just showing off of course!!

if a vehicle fails its MOT do you *have* to use the same garage for a retest or are you free to go wherever you want ?

What are people being charged for an MOT now? I think the rates were due to go up in Oct 06.

Just to let you know this does work - they've had some problems with their phone lines in the last few weeks but it's fine now

Martin, interesting piece on cheaper MOT tests.

However, I'm a bit concerned by the following part of your email;

'as they don't do repairs so there's less of an incentive to fail you'

The MOT test is a stringent test of the major and critical components of a car which deem it roadworthy or not. I hope you aren't suggesting that cars with defects will be passed because its not a proper garage.

We are afterall driving around quite quickly in one and a half ton metal boxes with a wheel at each corner. Spending £50 to find out it is safe and will stop when you press the brake is money well spent. Cutting corners here could mean somebody dies be it in or outside your vehicle.
