There's no council MOT centre in the Ivybridge/South Hams area but I recommend you try Ivybridge MOT Centre. They only carry out MOT testing and don't do repairs although they do minor light faults and beamsetting for free. A retest within 10 working days is also free. Prices have just gone up with the recommended price £50.35 for a car and £53 odd for a van between 3 and 3.5tons but they do cars for £45 and they have no axe to grind. They are Martins MOT finder website phone number 01752698835.0

Hi Dundee Council have one (Clepington =Road) , and there are a couple in Aberdeen
Hope this helps0 -
Someone's already asked this but got no repsonse, if your car fails it MOT, do you HAVE to take it back to the same garage for a re-test after repairs are done?0
-
No you don't have to but if you take it elsewhere then you will pay the full test fee. If you return to the same centre within 10 days then you may either get a free retest or possibly a reduced fee. It all depends on what exactly it failed for and what repairs have been done.

Martin, interesting piece on cheaper MOT tests.
However, I'm a bit concerned by the following part of your email;
'as they don't do repairs so there's less of an incentive to fail you'
The MOT test is a stringent test of the major and critical components of a car which deem it roadworthy or not. I hope you aren't suggesting that cars with defects will be passed because its not a proper garage.
We are afterall driving around quite quickly in one and a half ton metal boxes with a wheel at each corner. Spending £50 to find out it is safe and will stop when you press the brake is money well spent. Cutting corners here could mean somebody dies be it in or outside your vehicle.
