  • Hi ernie-money

When did you last have an MOT done? These changes came into effect in September so may not have applied then

    Andrea :)
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

Aha - that'll be it then! Derr... I had it done in August, didn't realise the changer were that recent, thanks!
I don't think I can hang on til Friday...
  • Hi. First time using this,,,,so very sorry if I get this wrong but can someone tell me of a council test centre in Birmingham please.

    Many thanks.
    J.
  • No one at the Council seems to know about the Reigate Council MOT test centre, so unless anyone can give an address I suggest it comes off the list. Not much going cheap in the South-East!
  • yes there have been changes brought in I think from 1st sept which means if the vehicle fails on certain things it can be brought back and the garage does not have to do a complete retest..I think its up to the garage to decide what to charge you for the restest (i.e any amount up to the full cost of the MOT)..actually i'm really pleased the MOT people have listened and come up with what seems to be a reasonable solution for those that like to fix their cars themselves.

This should save people money & give them flexibility to get repairs done elsewhere !!

You can take car away to get repairs done &
only a partial re-examination is required within 10 days at
    half MOT cost.

"If the vehicle does not qualify for a re-test as listed in 1) or 2) above, and is brought back to the same Testing Station by the end of the tenth working day following the day of the initial test for retest, only a partial re-examination is required for which a maximum of half the full fee may be charged.

Previously, in this instance, a full re-examination of the vehicle was required for which a full fee was chargeable.
Only one partial re-examination is permissible per full examination."

I've only just found this out after having an MOT done.
I thought MOT regulations were getting ridiculous regarding retests & fees.

And I have just used this in last few days (Partial Retest) & got my car through MOT. :j
(& the original MOT was on "No Pass, No Fee" deal, so you only pay if you Pass).

  • Hi
I recently enquired to the local council concerning the public MOT station. It is located at :

    Dundee Contract Services
    353 Clepington Road
    Dundee
  • I used Suffolk CC at Rougham this summer and was failed on light allignment.
I had complained for the last 6 years that they were not good and my previous garages had said they could not improve it. My new garage fixed the adjustment in half an hour and it was passed the next morning.
Suffolk CC said a retest was only free if within 24 hours.
I was glad to have been failed (eventually!)
