There are two government-run MOT test centres in Wiltshire. Their contact details are as follows:
Calne Test Station - 01249 812351
VOSA in Devizes - 01380 725854
VOSA is the workshop used by Wiltshire County Council.
I shall try them out when my MOT runs out.0 -
The same applies to BT MT Workshops they too have to offer MOT's to the Public.0

Still wanting to know which is the closest council-run MOT centre to Reading in Berkshire... Reading Borough Council told me they hire all their vehicles, therefore do not run an MOT centre.
Have not found a council-run MOT centre in Berkshire.
Has anyone used the MOT centres listed for Oxfordshire or Guildford? Are they any good?
Many thanks.0 -
The Council MOT test station is located on Rome Street, Bousteads Grassing,
Carlisle. Carlisle City Councils website address is https://www.carlisle.gov.uk
Hope this helps...0 -
found MOT test station for STOKE ON TRENT -Our MOT test station
Our fleet group, based in Northwood, is an approved MOT test station. As well as looking after our own fleet of vehicles, the group provides MOT testing services for the public. Please note that we will carry out the test but do not undertake repairs.
How much does it cost?
The charge to private vehicle owners for an MOT test is:
£35 for class 4 vehicles - cars.
£39 for class 7 vehicles - 3.5tonne and over, such as a motorhome.
£5 for a re-test taken within 14 days - required if the vehicle fails the previous MOT test.
Booking an MOT test
You will need to make an appointment for an MOT test. Phone us on 01782 2322970 -
I noticed on a thread from 2004 there is some information for a Council MOT centre in Stonehaven. So I have a name and phone number but does anyone know if there's an address for this centre as I live in Aberdeen and don't know Stonehaven at all, so directions from the centre may mean pretty much nothing to me. Alternatively does anyone know of a Council testing centre in Aberdeen???0

Oh and obviously the number for Stonehaven is in the main article0

mrtoad wrote:In reply to numerous items about MOT test centres I would like to put a few misconceptions right regarding rules on retests. I own a totally independent private testing station.... If a customers vehicle fails its test on 'minor items'.....then if the vehicle is taken away from the test station for repair it must be presented for retest by the end of the following working day. If the vehicle fails on any other item not on the 'minor items' list and it is removed from the test station, no matter when it comes back it must have a full MOT test again. These are VOSA rules and with the computerised testing regime now in place it easy for VOSA examiners to check whether this is being carried out. In fact it is not possible to carry out a retest on a vehicle that does not fulfill the above criteria as when the vehicle is registered for the retest the computer system rejects the vehicle as either being out of time or having a different mileage to the original test....
Don't want to be rude but i think you are talking nonsense…mine failed on a front brake hose, I did the hoses and returned for the re-test 6 days later.
Car was entered into the computer, inspector checked the hoses (2 mins) then we stood around until the 10 mins (set by the computer) had passed before he could print out the pass certificate.
No charge for the re-test
I suspect that the charge for the test, charge for re-test and, if applicable, time allowed for free re-test are up to the garage in question AS LONG as they are no worse than the ministry says, so…..
Cheap tests are allowed.
Free re-tests are required next working day for the MOT minor faults list.
Retests for other faults or outside the next working day can be free or can be charged at anything up to the cost of a test.0 -
I have just saved myself around £260 thanks to this site. I had my car serviced in July and the garage advised me that I would need around £240 in work done to get the car through the mot. (plus the cost of the mot itself, £20). Having read the advice here I went to my local authority mot testing station - cost me 40 quid and guess what! Passed no problem. So thank you Martin et al for saving me a load of (I suspect) unecessary work which I can ill afford to pay. I have recommended both the council's MOT service and this site to everyone I know. Cheers and keep up the good work. Elllie. xx.0
