Now everything that used to ship RM Special Delivery is being sent what they call "High Prime".

I really love that one! Yet another figment of Amazon's increasingly fertile imagination to keep the punters happy.

Soon they'll be sending all the stuff by Royal Mail "Extra Extra Gold Platinum Extra-Super" delivery.

But it will still come First Class, and it will still take at least 2 days.

I just subscribed to Amazon's free trial of Prime a few days ago. Order placed on New Year's Eve for delivery this Tuesday. Only arrived today (Thursday). Came by standard 1st Class post, with the word "PRIME" printed on the label

Same item ordered a week earlier but on Free Super Saver was sent by Royal Mail Tracked Next Day, but the dispatch was just a day later.

I've now unsubscribed and won't be paying for the full year (which I had planned to do).

Let's hope this is a temporary situation and not a move to shake off prime customers permanently. Maybe the costs to Amazon of offering prime are creeping up and they are trying to move away from it...

I suspect this may well be it. Being a prime member makes me lazy. Before, I'd save up books etc that I wanted for a little while and then place a large order to justify paying for quick delivery (super saver is just too slow). Now, I'll happily order a single paperback or £2.99 DVD.

I don't know what deal Amazon get from RM but it cannot be cost effective to send a £2.99 product by Special Delivery.

I wouldn't mind if they changed Prime to something like "next day delivery on orders over £5"

But I'm seriously peed off that it's blatantly NOT a next day service anymore. And that each product page says "Get it by Friday 7th January" (today) and you know that's not true. Surely they can't say that if they're not going to ship with a guaranteed next day service.

EDIT: Have submitted the story to Watchdog with a link to this thread.

I've not had a problem with Prime. I ordered an XBox 360 Kinect bundle on Tuesday of this week and it was delivered yesterday afternoon by City Link. At the same time I had ordered 2 DVD box sets and they also arrived yesterday but via Royal Mail and required a signature.

Perhaps a temporary problem and backlog caused the by weather problems before Xmas?

My 17th December prime order has been delivered today 20 days after dispatch

Still waiting for 1 item now

The only thing prime guarantees now is priority despatch same day if you beat the cut off by the looks of it, definitely not worth the cost if they stick to using First Class

I just placed an order for a book.

It offered me four delivery options, of which the second was checked:

[ ] FREE First Class (up to 2 business days)
[x ] FREE One-Day Delivery: get it tomorrow, Friday 7 January
[ ] £4.49/item Express Delivery: get it guaranteed by 1pm tomorrow, Friday 7 January
[ ] £7.48/item Evening Delivery: get it guaranteed (delivery between 6:30-9:30pm on weekdays and 2:30-5:30pm on weekends) by tomorrow, Friday 7 January

Screenshot of the order here (personal details removed):

So, let's see how it arrives. They seem to offer First Class and One Day as different options, so if it's sent by First Class post I'll be less than impressed.

Welshwoofs: I was a happy Prime customer for two years, with a LOT of orders under my belt, until the last month. Before December, I had never had a Prime order sent by Royal Mail First Class post.

They've obviously been operating in different ways. In three years of Prime membership they've used First Class a lot (around 50% of the time), but normally that's been OK because it got here next day. Now that isn't working any more, and I'm not convinced by their constant excuses that it's Royal Mail's fault.

So, after a few days of trying to sort this out, I am still without my Christmas present (ordered by Prime on 28th December, sent untracked and by 1st class - amazon actually told me this today) and they won't reorder my item until tomorrow - which means I have to take time out of my life (again) to call them.
I am now so obsessed with finding out exactly what is going on at Amazon, that I am pouring a BIG glass of wine and calling them. I also have the last packages that they've sent me - First Class with PRIME stamped on the label.
    Do they think we're stupid?!

Yes. Their line is that the T&C don't actually guarantee next day delivery, and the wording is too woolly to really push them on.
