Amazon prime delivery method has yours changed recently ?

  • There's a barcode on the packages, and they're tracked from that. The tracking is only between Royal Mail and Amazon, though - it isn't available to the customer.

It does mean, though, that Amazon do know when something's been delivered, even though there's no signature from the customer.

Well, they know it's been "sort of" delivered.
As I mentioned yesterday, my latest Prime purchase was a computer HDD valued at close to £100.
This was delivered by the postman who simply left it beside my front door partly hidden behind a flower pot.
Any passer by could have simply picked it up and walked away with it, then I would have the hassle of trying to convince Amazon that I hadn't received it.
When paying £50 a year for a "prime" service, this is not the sort of delivery service that I expect to get fobbed off with.

Yep, I ordered a thermometer for my newborn daughter safe in the knowledge I would get it the next day...only I didn't. Sent by Royal Mail 1st class and arrived three days later, I sent Amazon an email saying how on earth they expect people to pay for prime with its "FREE NEXT DAY DELIVERY" and just get normal service..they just emailed me back saying it wasn't guaranteed next day..
Amazon Prime members enjoy unlimited Free First Class Delivery and unlimited Free One-Day delivery on millions of eligible items sold by Amazon.co.uk.

However, these services are not Guaranteed Delivery services as occasionally, events beyond our control may cause a delay. We take full responsibility should any item become lost or damaged during delivery and we are happy to replace these items at our own cost.

Well, after nearly 2 weeks of messing about on the phone and in ridiculous copy and paste emails, Amazon have finally agreed to ship out a replacement Kindle (I have been waiting since 28th Dec). Bear in mind the cover I bought for it was sent out by First Class (3rd party seller), and it arrived within 24 hours!

Not only was the first one sent out by 'Express Delivery', a service that Amazon have totally made up (they have a tracking number, but I don't and neither of us has any idea where the item is until it's delivered), but they have sent the replacement out by the same method.

How stupid is that?! So, here I am again waiting by the door for the post (literally, as RM would leave a card asking us to collect in 72 hours otherwise).

I will be reporting the Prime service to OFT/Trade Descriptions people or whoever deals with this sort of thing. Unbelievable.

  • Still not received parcel from the 30th - today is D day (hopefully delivery day) as I was told I had to wait for the 8th!
Have just been on the consumer rights website http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/before_you_buy/online-shopping/buying-online-your-rights
One of the points it states is that the online seller must give you the following information
the delivery arrangements - normally within 30 days unless you agree otherwise
I would suggest that by signing up to Prime you are 'agreeing' that the delivery is something other than 30 days.
    You are also entitled to
A full refund if the goods or services are not provided by the date you agreed. If you didn't agree a date, then you are entitled to a refund if the goods or services are not provided within 30 days.
Anyone thinking of writing to Amazon yet?
What a difference with Graze - my nibble box is a day late and they have already credited me with 1/2 the cost of another box within half an hour of me letting them know. That's customer service for you.
  • And just to really add salt in the wounds my brother has just sent us a parcel from Amazon.com in the US took less than 4 days to arrive...

    not quite
the only barcodes scanned on delivery are special delivery, recorded(amazon dont use it) and Tracked
any other barcodes would be at most scanned on receipt at the mail centres(not delivery offices) to show they are in the system

But aren't Amazon using Tracked for most (all?) of their stuff now - apart, of course, from the rare occasion on which they use SD.

theres a still a large majority that goes 1st class
the numbers of tracked have risen since Amazon chose to use it, but theres still plenty that isnt.
the irony is that I havent a clue how RM would cope if all Amazon stuff went tracked

Well, as predicted nothing arrived today. I have been told by Amazon to be 'more patient' and wait until the 15th January for the replacement for the item originally ordered on 28th December.
I'm done with this now. If it doesn't arrive within the next few days I will leave it, cancel my Prime membershi* and try to boycott Amazon as much as possible!

I think we should start a facebook group or something similar to show our unhappiness with their delivery methods - Prime and otherwise.
