Amazon prime delivery method has yours changed recently ?

IIRC Prime is still "next day" normally - they use RM tracked for RM delivered packages which apparently is basically SD light (most of the same delivery guarantees as SD but much cheaper and not fully tracked), but RM is only used for small things like DVD's and games.
They've always used a mix of delivery methods for Prime, in the past year I've had Prime stuff arrive via virtually every delivery method under the sun short of winged messenger;) including at one point SD delivered by my normal postie (now it's just shoved through the door as the new RM tracked service doesn't require a signature rather it's scanned on a PDA at delivery I think), the one thing I have noticed is that if you place an order for 2+ items to be sent "as fast as possible", and one of them isn't in stock (or is a pre-order) that will show as "expedited" rather than "one day".0

The 3 options available for me currently are:
 Free 1st Class
 Free Next-Day Delivery
 £4.49/item express delivery (before 1pm)
The thing is to wait and see what Amazon use in the next few weeks, if they still use 1st class for next-day than it's time to complain a bit.0

 Tracked is just that,fully tracked
it also requires that a PDA must be used on delivery
so it has real time delivery data
Amazon use tracked for packages that can be massive. probably over a metre long from what i remember
It however is not a next day service unless the sender uses the next day version of it
which will be shown on the tracked label 0 0

            Email just sent to Amazon:Hi,
I am writing to complain about our Amazon Prime service. I placed two orders on Thursday (30th) that were dispatched by one day delivery using our Amazon Prime service. However, these orders have not arrived and no tracking information is available. It appears from recent orders that my Amazon Prime orders are NOT being dispatched by One Day delivery (courier or Royal Mail Special Delivery). You have changed the shipping to Royal Mail First Class post.
This service is NOT a One Day delivery method. Royal Mail do not guarantee next day delivery for items sent by first class post. With Amazon Prime we are paying an annual charge for unlimited One Day delivery but it seems you are no longer providing this service.
Please can you tell me if the new policy is to send Amazon Prime orders by first class post. This is unacceptable to me.
The orders I am currently waiting for are XXX and XXX (the latter is a replacement order for an item that previously did not arrive!).
 Kind regards,
 (my name)0

I can predict the response already. They don't know how to answer these emails, I think they just look through their database of stock replies and find one that mentions prime and first class.0

But it had something else in the box which I needed, so I accepted the parcel and kept that item and went through the returns process and arranged DHL to pick the printer up tomorrow...however, 10 mins later the idiots e-mailed me this:Hello,

We do understand our customer needs and we do whatever it takes to deliver the parcel with in the specified time. Unfortunately, in spite of all of our efforts, there can sometimes be unforeseen delays and in this case I would ask that you wait a little longer.
It's been our experience that the majority of late packages arrive a few days after the estimated delivery date. We ask that you wait until close of business on January 05, 2011 for your order to arrive.
We can indeed understand that it is a bit frustrating to wait till that length of time. However, I hope you'll understand that this additional period gives us the time to take right actions upon your order, under such situations so that the matter is resolved to your fullest satisfaction.
If your package has not arrived by January 05, 2011, please let us know using the link below so we can investigate and take the appropriate action.

I can certainly understand that this was not what you expected when you placed your order. Please note that, the date provided is just an estimation and not a guaranteed and rest assured that the order will be deliver as soon as possible. If it arrives too late to meet your needs, please feel free to return it at our expense. We will issue a full refund for the price of any item you return
Further, the vast majority of our orders are usually delivered well within the expected delivery time; however, occasionally a package may be delayed. This is not a common occurrence but when it does happen, we take full responsibility and will endeavour to find a solution.
We do want to make sure that you receive your order. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, and for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.

Just to add to this, over three years or so of Prime membership I'd say around half the stuff comes ordinary Royal Mail and half City Link. Special Delivery is very rarely used.
Royal Mail has been spectacularly unreliable for weeks now - but then today City Link failed to deliver as they should have done. They've been pretty reliable, by and large.
My guess is there's a problem within Amazon that they're not owning up to.0

There is defiantly something wrong somewhere , my mitre box still hasn't arrived or a router i ordered 17th December and these are so called prime deliveries
I presume they automatically send emails when the items are loaded onto the couriers/RM trailers , wonder if they are just sitting on trailers for days0

Another day, still no sign of the two books ordered on Thursday using Prime.
We've been Prime members for two years and until the last month everything we've ordered has arrived next day.
What frustrates me is the fact that product pages say "Get it by (tomorrow's date)". Surely they can't say it if they're not going to send the item by a guaranteed next day service?0
