Something interesting to note is that after my Prime trial ran out I signed up for a two monthly delivery of baby wipes, with free delivery, the first delivery arrived the next day via city link!

It gets stranger. I bought a DIY book and chose free super save delivery..well it's been dispatched today via RM Tracked? Ie the same method as when I was using Prime.

I can only assume Prime isn't making them the money it costs to use City Link anymore..to be honest I see why, why would someone pay £49 for a year when you can have the same (occasionally better!!!) service for free?
  • Esoog - it's pretty much exactly the same for me. Since I cancelled my Prime account I've order two items. A bag came one day after it was despatched. I ordered some baby wipes myself yesterday evening (the x9 pack of Pampers @ £7.50 that I bet you got too :D ) and they were dispatched today via City Link 24 hour delivery! What on Earth is the point in having a Prime account if I can get Super Saver delivery much quicker? I am stumped!
  • I trialled it for a month and just cancelled as it is a con. I saw it ages ago, perhaps when it initiated but thought it unnecessary. However, I recently needed a few things and paid express delivery, wishing I'd paid an annual fee. Some stuff took days, the other a couple of days, exactly the same as the free delivery. Thus, it offers no value for me.

Depends how much stuff you buy from them, how often you want it quickly, and maybe how far you live from shops.

For me it's still worth the money to be sure (well, reasonably sure) of getting something the next day rather than having to waste a lot of time going out to get it - even little things that you wouldn't normally buy online because of the postage costs. I'm not convinced about Super Saver delivery - this is a quiet time of year for Amazon, and not really typical.

But that is the point. We are arguing that no longer do you receive things quickly because they have devalued the Prime directive (sic). You no longer receive things the next day, or the day after or indeed at any time before they would otherwise arrive with free delivery.

Now if Prime included items from the Marketplace where you still have to pay postage, it may still be a winner.

Ordered an electrical item on Saturday (19/2) lunchtime - one day delivery, delivery estimate 21/2, which I thought was pretty good.

Despatch email received on Sunday (20/2) - expected delivery date via CityLink 23/2... What the...?!

    And actually arrived today (22/2)...

The thing that irks me most is the complete lack of certainty. Based on the original estimate, I would have ensured I was in on Monday, based on the despatch email, I would have had to change that to Wednesday. Then they deliver on Tuesday - Amazon to$$ers

Thank you all for your experiences, I was thinking of taking the trial but now I realise it's just not worth it even for free.

I've been using super saver on nearly every order for the last maybe 9 months. Lately I have noted that Amazon just don't deliver most of the time.

I've started using Amazon sellers, and had much better service for about the same cost or less (add the post to the cost as another mentioned on the forum somewhere).

I got fed up with cut and paste emails, so now when stuff is late I use distance selling and cancel the order - get a refund and send goods back. At least that way the bad service is actually costing them, so might make a point.

I then re-order, but do it with a Seller rather than Amazon themselves. They can then watch the sales it is costing them. If they can't get it right, then they can just watch their own sellers profiting instead.

It's about the only practical way to remind a big corporate that customers always have rights. Got to hurt them in the wallet or they just don't notice and won't care. ;)
