The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

Hi there, I've not been on here for absolutely ages
. I have still been decluttering (ish!). It has taken DD the ENTIRE summer holidays to sort out her bedroom- pest! But it is done now so we are able to get in there and clean it hopefully. I started the garden declutter the other day. I took 2 car boot loads to the tip for the garden waste bin. I also went to ask if they still sold compost. Annoyingly, they don't so I had to part with my pennies at a certain orange DIY place. I'm trying to support the local community and it's not working very well.
There is an old bike and an old broken swing in the front garden pending going. They will have to be squished down to go in the car to the tip or wait for the metal men to come up the road again.
If the weather stays good this week (fingers crossed) I will be painting the house. At least it's only a case of painting around each window and the corners and the outside of the utility room because the rest of it is stone so needs nothing doing. I have a massive tin of paint which cost an arm and a leg but it should do the whole lot and have some left over. It's guaranteed for 15 years so I'm not sure what to do with the leftovers! I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
Decluttering has been very stressful this week. I'm trying to pack for uni which involves getting rid of a lot of stuff, but also buying a lot of new stuff which is now cluttering everywhere! And I'm working all day, every day this week, so packing and decluttering aren't going so well, and I only have another week left! I did find bits of important paperwork that I need today though, and have also got a big crate to go to the recycling.0

We are in a similar position here only it is our two boys that are taking over the house with the uni bits. Our lounge is full of cooking pots and pans and my table is covered with my eldest son's electronics. My table has been like that for most of the summer but he has now suddenly realised he needs to get on with it and it seems to have spread even further.
Yesterday we spent all day filling in a form for a bursary youngest son is applying for so decluttering had to be left. Today I am back to work but decluttering must go on. Last December we had friends visit from abroad and they filmed the house before they went home. We had collected eldest son from uni the day before and I had been very busy at work and the house was an absolute pigsty. If they decide they are coming again, I am determined the house will be in better shape next time.0 -
Fairly successful few days (had Friday off work).
Out:
Box of Guide stuff back into assistant's garage where it is stored
Costumes I've been sewing to the group they're for
Plastic packaging/bags into bin at Waitrose
5 batteries into tub at Waitrose
Then:
Went through the pile of clothes labels I've been shoving in my dressing table and:
Mini safety pins, a few buttons and some ribbon in my sewing box.
Cardboard in the recycling
Bits of string in garage for gardening
fabric in fabric recycling bag.
any rubbish in bin
(and now have a big empty space in my dressing table!)
Then went through my craft stuff. Got rid of a couple of cross stitch kits I'd started 15+ years ago and was really only keeping for sentimental reasons. So they've got in a combination of bin/fabric recycling/cardboard recycling and I have a pile of stuff for ebay.
Going to try and start adding things to turbolister and scheduling them for the future then I can edit the date and add them when I want to save the scheduling fee and actually get some ebaying done!
Got rid of a few other bits and bobs too, couple of out of date things from baking cupboard, pair of tights with a hole in just trying to be concious of what we've got and what we really don't need.
Also found homes for most of the stuff on my desk - need to do the rest tomorrow night and try and do our accounts to get rid of the pile of receipts on my desk.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Who's up for a mini challenge this week? I'm going to aim to get rid of 30 things by the end of this week.

What puts me off decluttering is that while you are busy doing it, things look even worse and you don't see the payoff till it's done. Anyhow, as a bit of an impetus, I try to imagine someone coming in to clear the house should I pop off suddenly. It helps focus the mind! Also I can only cope by taking baby steps.. Which is why it has taken me 5 days to clear a 5 drawer chest. Sigh..0

Recycling went out this morning - made sure I emptied all the paper/card from inside the house that we've generated since Saturday and put that out in our extra box too.
Had to buy tights last night as I only had one pair left having got rid of 2 manky pairs last week so that's pretty neutral.
I'm up for 30 things out the house by the end of the week - mine will be Saturday because that's when I can next get to the charity shops and won't include the box of stuff I've already got to go for the bric a brac stall for the theatre I volunteer for which is going there tomorrow night - unless I find extras to add tonight!
So 30 items out of the house by the end of Saturday!Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Don't thik I've mentioned here, but as well as decluttering at hme, I decluttered my office at work over the summer holidays as I was getting a new carpet fitted so everything had to come out of the office anyway.
Well, it was very successful and my office was lovely but when I returned yesterday, my boss had decided to do a spot of decluttering himself (I'm a PA and had told him his cupboards were a disgrace and we should sort them out) - trouble is his decluttering has ended up in MY office *sigh*GOD BLESS DURAN DURAN
