My lounge is horrendously dim so I think the old style bulbs will be going into use. Which means another low energy bulb to store, so no declutter there. I have some sympathy with those hoarding the old bulbs.
I've never bought a low energy bulb but I too have loads that I got for free, they are all neatly stored in a tub on top of a kitchen wall unit. I also have some of the old bulbs in the cupboard, which I don't think I will use, so I may hook those out and send to CS.mineallmine wrote: »Who's up for a mini challenge this week? I'm going to aim to get rid of 30 things by the end of this week.
I'm up for the challenge, tackling the spare room again tomorrow so I'm sure I can find at least that amount in there. Mind you the spare room is still full of stuff from the loft, so will be a challenge in itself to get in there, lol! What puts me off decluttering is that while you are busy doing it, things look even worse and you don't see the payoff till it's done. Anyhow, as a bit of an impetus, I try to imagine someone coming in to clear the house should I pop off suddenly. It helps focus the mind!
I know what you mean, when I tackle my 'cupboard of doom', I end up with stuff all over the bedroom and it looks a real mess, but at least I do now get rid of some stuff, instead of just throwing it all back in and closing the door, lol! That's also what keeps me going with the decluttering, the thought of someone going through my stuff when I die ! Sorting my dad's stuff while he was in hospital a couple of years ago made me think of that, and is one of the reasons I started decluttering in the first place.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

I seem to have got sidetracked lately - I downloaded Tiny Zoo to my iPod and have spent sooooo much time tending my animals on there, all the while resisting the frequent suggestions that I spend real money on their game money:eek: The idea of someone else having to sort out my carp is a good spur though - so I'll feed my animals and then crack on:rotfl:0

If you want to get rid of them quickly and don't want to do down the ebay/amazon route but want a bit of money the alternative is music magpie. you just type in the numbers by the barcode on each cd and then they tell you how much they will offer you for them. When I did a batch some were 30p, some were £3 and I decided it all balanced out in the end and it was very easy. They send a freepost label, you box it up, take to the post office and get proof of postage then they send you a cheque. If you've got lots they will do a courier collection instead.
You might get more for them on ebay/amazon but it takes a lot less time and they are gone a lot quicker!Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

I've started my getting rid of 30 things challenge!:
1-4 - mugs we hadn't already earmarked to get rid of that I'd added to the box of stuff for theatre sale which is now in our boot to drop off tonight!
5 - watering can added to box too. We bought an ikea one, was great, bought a tesco version for upstairs, wasn't as good so replaced with another ikea one now!
The box has been in the hallway/downstairs loo over the last few weeks so I'm pleased to see it go!
I've offered my mum's old sewing machine she didn't want back to a friend who has said yes she'd love it - so that's good. Just need to drop it off at her house now and then I can set my new one up on my sewing table!
I'm only counting things that actually leave the house or end up in the bin/recycling that will get collected in the next fortnight - no point in just shoving stuff in the garage to take at some point this might spur me on!Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

No problem, that was my attitude too. I'm trying to get rid of stuff responsibly but quickly and if I get a bit of money too well so much the better!Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

I've been very busy today! I went through the bags of baby clothes/bedding etc which have been in the loft for 20 years, and got rid of 64 items of clothing, 17 items of bedding, a pair of shoes, a pair of slippers (both hardly worn), a pair of curtains, 30 terry nappies, and a net bag containing 14 bath toys, all of which are now in the shed and will go to CS on Saturday morning, along with another bag of stuff that I sorted out a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was about time I let go of this stuff, bearing in mind that my only child is 30, lol! I have to admit I am still keeping a few bits that I'm really sentimental about, but it's only about half a bin bag, compared to the four full bags that I did have, and they will be put back in the loft once the insulation has been done.
I also tidied the 'cupboard of doom' (while looking in there for some speaker wire, which I didn't find), and put 3 broken photo frames in the bin, 3 manky radiator airers out by the bin ready to go to the tip at the weekend, a load of old birthday/Christmas cards into recycling, emptied a huge box (which mostly had the old cards in) and put what was left into a smaller box, and put the big box out for recycling. I still have 3 bags of cards to go through, but will do that tomorrow.
I was going to take my dad's big blanket back to him but I was too worn out after doing all that, so I will put it in the car later and take it round after work tomorrow.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs
