The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

Managed to get rid of the textiles, shredding and cardboard last night on way home.
Last night was more cleaning and shoving of stuff out the way for estate agent photos - not that much was actually got rid of, a few random bits and pieces and some recycling, tonight and Friday will be spent putting stuff back and get the house viewer ready in anticipation so I think that'll be where more decluttering occurs!
At lunchtime went to get some more plants, we were a couple short we decided, and a red ceramic pot for our wormery waste in the kitchen, we were using an ice cream tub with was the wrong shape & not very smart, MIL at the weekend had a ceramic plant pot for hers so I stole the idea, and red is a colour that runs through our kitchen. Trying to think of things we'll need to keep house ok for viewings.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

I have decluttered my mezzanine storage, er junk, area ...except I don't know how to get rid of some of it. I have a futon mattress, single green narrow foam bed (needs a wash but I live in a top flat so can't see how I could do it) and an IKEA mattress topper. Also a big bag of incontinence type pads (bought for a pet but they are for humans). It is all heavy and big. Any ideas on which charity may be interested and could collect please?0

Feel better that it wasn't just me bubbling at the weekend because I was going through old cards and letters! I decided to keep all my 21st cards but got rid of the rest unless they were particularly special. Thinking about it I didn't come across my 18th birthday cards - I don't think I would have thrown them out - must still be at Mam and Dad's house. Must check next time I'm there - could have another sniffle to myself!
I have loads of daft notes and letters that my mum and sister sent me when I was at uni and although they're not particularly heartfelt or special they make me chuckle so I'm not getting rid of them! Managed to fit them all into a cardboard box that fits nicely under the chest of drawers in the bedroom so happy with that.
I'm just the same with blubbing while going through cards and letters, but I'm unable to just bin without at least checking who the cards are from. One of the daftest things I'd kept, until recently, was an old self addressed envelope of my late mum's, (which I think she probably gave to me with used stamps in originally) but for some reason I couldn't face getting rid of it.Buffythedebtslayer wrote: »*coughs*

I too have many many many many many bits of VERY useful paper.
and as to my digital resources, they are disaster with double copies of everything every where. night mare.
I'm glad I'm not the only one, lol! I have 2 external hard drives, which both have backups of hundreds of files, and a lot of them are duplicates, so I really must try to go through them and cull all the unnecessary stuff, but will probably still keep at least 2 copies of important stuff like family photos and music/video files, just in case, lol! Amongst the files are about a million (not too much of an exaggeration, lol!) pictures, videos and music files which my DS put on there, and he hasn't lived here for over 2 years! Maybe I should just delete them, but I'd hate it if someone did that to my files so I'd rather he went through them in case there's anything important that he wants to keep.
Well I didn’t get much de-cluttering done in the second half of last week, as I could barely move for the rest of the week after hurting my back sorting out the contents of the loft, I couldn't completely straighten my back until late on Monday evening, and I’ve been really tired all the time due to the pain waking me up many times every night!
We were supposed to have the loft insulation done today, and were hoping to get the stuff put back in the loft tonight, but when the workmen arrived they found that we have a huge wasps nest in the loft, so they were unable to do it after all, and we are stuck with the mess in the spare room until they can reschedule the work. We’re having the nest sorted tomorrow afternoon, so I’m hoping it won’t be too long before they come back.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

How to overcome the urge to procrastinate -
Identify the most important thing you have to do today.
Decide to do just the first little part of it — just the first minute, or even 30 seconds of it. Getting started is the only thing in the world that matters.
Clear away distractions. Turn everything off. Close all programs. There should just be you, and your task.
Sit there, and focus on getting started. Not doing the whole task, just starting.
Pay attention to your mind, as it starts to have urges to switch to another task. You will have urges to check email or Facebook or Twitter or your favorite website. You will want to read a magazine or make a call or do another task. Notice these urges.
But don’t move. Notice the urges, but sit still, and let them pass. Urges build up in intensity, then pass, like a wave. Let each one pass.
Notice also your mind trying to justify not doing the task. Also let these self-rationalizing thoughts pass. Now just take one small action to get started. As tiny a step as possible.
Get started, and the rest will flow.
Thank youI was busy procrastinating reading the declutter thread instead of getting on with writing my PhD (as I should be right this minute)...and after a few deep breaths I'm back in the writing zone

Out last night:
12 Gardener's World Magazines to someone on local freecycle - thought I'd try there before recycling them and she was delighted (I bought them on an offer for a year and was going to go through, get stuff out and put together helpful tips but never got that far and so decided this was the way forward)
Today I'm taking a box of stuff for my Guide unit to the other Guider who has space - but she has some stuf to give back to me, although most will go in storage containers we have at my house and then go out quite quickly to the girls.
We've got some stuff we've decided we need to put in to storage whilst we try and sell the house - trying to find a friend with space first otherwise we'll have to pay - the drawback to all your family living miles and miles away.....Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
