I got quite a bit done today without leaving the couch :rotfl:

Tidied out the kitchen drawer that is used as a general dumping ground and the letter/magazine rack and put the contents shredded into the recycling bin.

Also went through the bedding pile and cleared out a few extra sets that my DD had acquired as gifts. There is now less to wash and iron plus more space in the linen cupboard.

Now that I am keeping the house reasonably tidy it is much easier to choose small areas and declutter them where as before trying to tidy was the main focus!
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

Finally finished this first quarter of the living room. :j It's taken hours, filling 2 recycling bags and half filling a bag of rubbish! Plus sorted some bits for charity.

So I've decided the lounge is the focus this week. Working on the remaining quarters of the room. At least it's less daunting looking at it that way.

I've done another half of the lounge today! Yay :j

Really hard work but getting there. Just the one quarter of the lounge left to do. Loads of stuff still to do but I'm getting there. Once I've gone round once, I will have to do the inside of a cabinet + sort some DVD storage + cull some old paperwork including reading/recycling some magazines.

Keep going everyone, it's amazing how much better things feel when they are getting under control

  • Oh my god - I can't stop decluttering lol :j

Had planned a couple of jobs (re frog thread) but thinking of the card declutter over the weekend made me wonder why i'd kept the 21 and 18 plastic keys everyone seemed to give me. I was imagining that whole carrier bag cluttering the place up for another 20 years before I threw them out so decided to chuck them all! Got out to the wheelie bin with them and faltered, so decided to remove them all from their boxes, so now I just have a small keepsake box of them...much more manageable!

I also decided to part with my collection of Disney videos that haven't seen the light of day in about 10 years. Got 60 of them and didn't think anyone would be interrtested but just listed them on freecycle about half an hour ago and already had half a dozen emails asking for them.

Those things, as well as sorting out some paperwork and wrapping 12 ebay parcels ready for posting tomorrow feel like a weight being lifted...odd, isn't it? I'm now looking around for other things I can get rid of, DS is looking worried :rotfl:

    Well done :T

I always wonder, why do people give these things - why would anyone want a big plastic 18th or 21st key?? DS1 got one and put it in the bin, as he couldn't see the point of it at all!
Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

'Buffy The Debt Slayer' :D Good name!
    How're you getting on??

Well, I do have to admit that I spent some money today but I have so far done an hour and fifteen minutes on starting my declutter!!

I know it's not a lot of time but my I started this weeks ago before I had issues with other householdy things coming up - kept telling myself I would start again as my clothes are in piles everywhere waiting to be sorted and it's driving me nuts!

I am also attempting a declutter everywhere else - not a good plan to try it all at once so just my room and clothes for now.

So..I have been thinking about getting a kitchen timer as I could use one as my slow cooker has no timer and I can be quite good at getting caught up with doing something else when I should be watching what time it is..
So I got one of these today but my promise to myself is that I must therefore use it - but not just for cooking.
    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8423892.htm

(I could alternatively have put myself up for adoption and got my new mum to follow me around slapping the back of my head every time I stopped doing what I should be...but I figured at 42 it's unlikely anyone would adopt me..hehe!)

So..I got back from the shop - set the timer for an hour and went straight up and started.....at last!! :)

The alarm went off and I actually found I had done a load already and had forgotten all about taking a break or getting a coffee - I think somehow I thought - 'eek! I only have an hour!'
I did actually go back and do 15 mins more too as I was too in the middle of things.

The timer has four alarms you can set at teh same time to go off at different times I can set it for cooking and the declutter..and reminders for things too.

If this is what it takes for me to get off my bum then so be it!

I'm also going to use it each evening and set some time for 'doing something' rather than giving in and doing nothing.

I've also started a list of things that need doing - I did get bored of that as there is a lot! Haha!

PS..just to state I am 'officially' on a coffee break but have the timer set for later to start again...not quite sure where dinner time fits in to my plan yet.....but I doubt I will pop it if I go another hour or so before I eat!

    I feel all...:j !!!!
  • Wow, that is SO weird, I bought a timer today too! from Robert Dyas, it isn't as flashy as yours but it is the only thing that sorts me and makes me shift!

under the stair cupboard is being tackled soon xxx

OMG!!! I am now in shock!!!

    How bizarre is that!!??

I looked at the one in RD and I'd already seen the one in Argos - just means I have to validate doing more things than just one at a time!! Hehe!

Just done another hour - got loads done!

I actually ended up coming downstairs before the alarm as I was so hungry - I only had 25 seconds left on the timer! Haha!

Time for a chill out and pizza me thinks...yummy! :)
