  • Big declutter question guys - any advice welcome!
Last year for my birthday my brother gave me a large, wall-mountable, double sided clock - the kind you so often see on stations. I love it, but I'm in a rented house, and don't trust the walls to take the weight (or my landlady not to kick off!). It's currently sitting (boxed) in my bedroom behind a chair. Do I keep it for when we move (no current plans, but the kids are growing!) or do I pass it on to someone else who'll actually use it as intended?
All thoughts/comments/advice welcome, and thanks for listening!

Simple answer....ask your mum to look after it until you're in a place where you can confidently put it up!

I'm now decluttering a bowl of strawberries raspberries and cream - and then to put my feet up with a good book and a glass of wine :j

    Afternoon all,

I need to do some serious decluttering. Going to set a couple of mini challenges. Namely:

    1. Get rid of (recycle) 10 magazines. I have a lot of work based ones to flick through.
    2. Collect 10 items to recycle from kitchen. :o
    3. Get rid of (recycle) 3 items of clothing to account for the 3 new items I bought yesterday.

That will at least be a start. Targets of 10, 10 and 3.

DW on. And away I go.

Wed - OH off work and we had gorgeous weather for the car boot. We took over £70 and the girls made £20.30 to share between them from their stuff which was mainly from teddies, jigsaws, 'handbags', books, a doll and a few kiddie hair and jewellery bits. Lot more room in the car when we came home, but OH said the garage was still full when he put the boxes back in. Hopefully we'll be able to do a few more car boots before the weather gets too cold/rainy in the autumn.
Ex also emailed saying he did want to the girls to apparently go camping next week and he would let me know when he wanted them. He's got to have them back by Thursday am at latest and he still hasen't let me know when he'd like them so have no idea what and how many days I'll have to get on with decluttering.

Thurs - Parents brought the DDs home :) So now the living room has that lived in look once again :)

Today - In - 4 pairs of shoes! Shoes for school & nursery, and shoes for OH and me for my cousin's wedding next Sat.

Still plenty of jobs to get done, but it's a long weekend so OH and I have time to (hopefully) get lots done :)

The bin was rammed full on Thursday, ditto the recycling bag and box. Saw the comment about £20 AN ITEM for rubbish collection from the council. That's scandalous and really irresponsible, it just encourages fly-tipping. If I put one radiator out it would cost me £20, but up to five more items could accompany it. What I usually do is buy wheelie bin liners, put everything in those and say I have six black bags. That costs me just over a tenner.

Bought some clothes in the end of season sales for me and some early Christmas presents for DGD. Have rehomed a lot recently, including a lovely blouse to a good friend that so suits her, yet looked daft on me. My sister bought it for me.

  • Well done everybody who's making progress (or trying to :j)

I'm not sure whether I'm ahead or not but this week have managed a big fire to burn lots of (mainly) papers there were about 4 carrier bags worth & a bin full, which were taking up space so that's good.

Have managed to put out bin & recycling today too, in the bin were included a broken toaster, a broken mug & a broken jug which have been left out before.

We have acquired a few items from the charity shop this week, it's closing down next week so making the most of it.

I have also written an advert to go in the local paper to try & sell a pair of shoes, it's free to post so worth a try. Not done anything like this before so not sure what will happen!(I remember my dad having put an advert in the paper years ago, and strange men started ringing the house asking dodgy questions )

I bought more stuff today! Nothing that doesn't have a purpose or a place to go though. Since I've started my decluttering spree I've thrown out at least 5 pairs of shoes that were done and as much as I wanted to wear out some more before I bought anymore, everyone needs a pair of flat blacks for work.

Still doing quite well although things have slowed down a bit as I've been at work but I've been trying to do a little thing every night like the sock drawer or a box of dvds here and there. I'm terrible at wearing clothes until they have completely disintegrated which is good but as so much stuff is so bobbly I can only wear it at home there's only so much I can use so this is the stuff that I'm being ruthless with so I can actually see the half decent stuff.

I'm onto the reducing the keepsake box next so hankies at the ready!

Keep up the good work everyone.
