I just thought I would let you know we kind of won getting charges back from Natwest .
They offered £2,500 to settle and we accepted.:j
a week later they sent a letter saying we have 28 days to find an alternative bank account as they feel that communications had broken down ! !!!
Cheeky eh ?
Faxed back a reply and by post saying we did not agree and all that ... still not had the cheque yet , I believe they said we owed a small amount on the overdraft and they would take that off.
We also have credit cards from Natwest and they have called a couple of times for my husband when he's been out . I have a nasty feeling that they might try to get the balance from the cards from us as well (visa cards) .. Are they able to do this ?
Anybody else had this with Natwest ?
I won charges back from Natwest in February and my husband is reclaiming back just over £400.
As soon as they received his initial letter they wrote asking for all cards and cheque books to be returned to them. If they weren't received they were going to send recovery agents to collect them as well as adding another £125.00 to his account along with a default being issued. They also requested that we pay off £90 something to bring the account up to date, which we have done. Then what do they go and do - add another charge of £38.00 the next day - so we are still in the red with them by £35.00
Can't quite believe they did that:eek:0 -
Barclays Bank closed my current account that I had had with them for about 12 years, when I rejected their payout offer of £285. I am reclaiming bank charges for £785. I had a £1000 pound overdraft, which they then demanded back. I had already opened another account with another bank and Barclays came to an aggreement on repayments of the overdraft. I am now waiting on my court date which is in September.0

We claimed bank charges from the Nationwide. After court action they paid part of the claim and then they closed the account. We complained to the Ombudsman and they awarded £250 for the retaliatory closure of the account. If they close your account go to the ombudsman and use the magic word "retaliatory". Now we are waiting to go to the court for the rest of the bank charges claim!0

Hi,
I,ve just posted a similar thraed
Nic Taylor0 -
abbey have closed my account before my case has even gone to court.
i recieved a letter from them informing me that my overdraft needed to be repayed within 7 days of the letter date and the account would be closed, abbey being abbey sent it second class and it actually arrived 10 days after the letter date.
i had already opened another account so i payed what i owed and sent a letter thanking them for the amount of notice given and recomended they use first class in future.
still it makes me all the more determined to take it all the way to court and not settle for any less than 100% of claim0 -
Report them to FO too for retaliatory closure of your account, if nothing else it will embarass them, plus the FO charge them too(a few hundred quid i think if i remember rightly)..and you may even get compensated!
double whammy in my book
good luck

I would like to start proceedings with Lloyds Bank but have a loan with Loans Direct (also a Lloyds company) my concern is that if I am successful they will call in the loan. Would be grateful for any help.
I also have a loan with Lloydstsb, I got charges back, They didn't recall loan and I still have o/d if I want. (no way been down that road )0 -
Yesterday, HSBC asked me to return my switch card, and were offering me a managed loan, which I did not accept, as my court date is on the 2nd August.
They have continued to apply charges to my account since I made my claim, and it has been a vicious cycle, as I go overdrawn with the charges.
I got home this afternoon and the letter from D and G solicitors had arrived.;)
I am not clear with the jargon, could someone out there please clarify for me
"I accept the sum in full and final settlement of my claim against HSBC for the charges applied to my account in the period Oct to Jan. I agree not to make any other claims relating to charges for the period stipulated above. I also agree to keep the fact of my cliam and the ex gratia payment made my Hsbc strictly confidential."
1.HSBC continued to charge me after January, so this does not mean I cannot make a second claim, right?
2.By asking for my switch card, and cheque book back, are they likely to close my account, shortly?0 -
Did you follow martin's advice of a parachute account? Luckily I did because as soon as First Direct (part of HSBC) rec'd my MCOL , they immediately demanded I cut my cards up and paid back my authorised overdraft. Luckily I have been saving for months in my other account and have paid it back.
I have heard today that they intend to defend my claim in full so I too am off to court.0
