Co-Op bank charged me £39 for going 3p overdrawn, I complained in branch, the manager agreed to refund the charge but took my card off me, cut it up and closed my account immediately.

Im with Halifax, i was 1p overdrawn because my incapacity benefit went in 1 day later, i asked my branch if they could refund my £39 charge, they said sorry, i must manage my money better so they cant refund it

  • Would there be any detrimental effect on a claim that is underway if you were to switch bank accounts having already setup a parachute account before any settlement is reached ?

I have sent the first letter to my bank who acknowlegded the letter but didn't offer any settlement. In the meantime I have setup another account which is all ready to go but a bit wary of shutting down existing if it may harm my claim..

cheers for any advice. Sorry if it's the wrong thread but link to questions didn't work....

Has anyone claimed against HSBC Credit Card whilst still having an overdraft on their current account. What do they do if you puruse them for repayment on the CC, do they get funny about the OD?
I'm with HSBC and have a very large overdraft...I put in a claim for £1450 inlcuding interest and HSBC offered me £1220 (minus the interest) - I accepted and they transferred the money a few days later. Like you I was very worried that they would remove my overdraft facility or close my account, however neither happened...so very happy :-)
  • We had our charges repaid in june & so far they have not closed our acct! Though we did have quite a 'stern' letter telling us that we now had to run our acct within the terms & conditions!! In other words - stop going over our o/d limit! I think that when our review comes up in Sept they will be looking to reduce/cancel our o/d limit!!! But hey at least we got our money, so it will be worth it!!

I'm with halifax they recently refunded £900 and as of today they have cancelled my overdraft without notice
  • I was with yorkshire, i had a overdraft of £500 and was disputing charges of £1150. They closed my account and asked for the £500 back with 14 days. I was unable to do this, so i sent a letter saying i would pay back the overdraft when my bank charges disput was settled. They have ignored this and i recieved a letter last week from a dept collection company, i presume now i have a bad credit record!

Not sure what to do know, take them to court or leave it and see how things turn out with this test case.

Has any one had any problems/successes with yorkshire bank? I heard that they are being particularly nasty about the whole thing!
  • the way i see it, if they close your account, they dont deserve your money so a parachute account would be the best solution.

I think we should ALL boycott those that are notorious for closing accounts, and withdraw ALL of our money from them, and reward the ones that dont.

I have quite a lot of money in my Halifax Bank account, so i'll start the boycotting- if anyone has had them close a bank accont, contact me and ill close my account with them myself :)

I have been succesful in in my claims to 2 x Capital One a/cs and 1 x halifax.

Last week. one of the capital One credit cards would NOT allow me to pay for grocercies at Sainsburys'. The balance is £1.80p

I've just tried to ontain £30 from my halifax a/c and the card was 'retained'. There is an £800 o/d facilty and I'm o'drwn by £60.

I's quite clear 'why' and 'how' they are hitting back!

I'm not overly concerned and I'm still glad I went for it - Reclaiming the charges which were compounded when I was in a bad way - refused help - yet helped along with yet more bank charges in an already 'sad' situation.

I'm still glad I went the distance.
  • I was charged £130 for being less than £10 overdrawn (and for only three hours!) by Smile. They have withdrawn my overdraft and the cooperative have closed my credit card account. I don't need either so thier loss, and I'll take my savings elswhere.

I had an account with the Halifax, the charges were snowballing and they closed the account setting it to £0.. I lost over £700 though in charges over the time I had my account open. The account was around £300 overdrawn when they closed it..

Any ideas or advice on what way to approach this. I know I probably have no chance of sorting it now with the news from OFT but its just all kinda confusing.

I had sent them a LBA but never got a reply..

    Thanx in advance
