It's strange to read the various service levels supplied to certain Individuals from the same Banks.
i.e. Barclays appear to have been annoying quite a number of people yet my experience has been nothing but pleasant. When I phoned today to confirm they had recieved my acceptance of their second Offer, they were ever so nice and then reminded me I'm elligible for Loans, increases in Overdrafts etc etc.
It makes me wonder whether they have certain policies which are used depending on the salary/wage of the customer in question or perhaps length of time with the bank.
I've been with my Bank for about 10 years and for 8 years I run my account like an absolute cretin, I remember at one point my Monthly salary would not even bring me out of my overdraft, yet I've never had so much as a snotty phone call.0 -
I have a small Alliance and Liecester current account and have recently tried to reclaim some charges incurred for briefly going over the overdraft limit .
I have been told that a decision could take until after the test case decision which could be next year. Meanwhile today I found that I couldn't use my debit card even though I am currently within the previously agreed £250 overdraft. Could this mean my overdraft acility has been frozen ? I have not been informed that this is to happen.0 -

Hi
We have recently gone through the ombudsman to claim £5500 from nationwide in charges. We accepted there offer a week or two ago. I was worried about them closing our account as we have banked with them for about 10 years. We had a letter sat morning telling us the money would be paid into our flex acct within 10 days. No mention of closing our account, just a leaflet advising us how we can avoid bank charges in the future. So I presume now we are ok. Good Luck!0 -

The exact same thing happened with my sister and Smile. She found out that she had gone overdrawn by £12 and so transferred money into her account - yet her charges were over £100!!! They have also cancelled her direct debits because of this because 'they were unhappy with how she ran her account'. My advice - stear clear of Smile because a smile you will not have after dealing with them.0 -
I am looking to claim for bank charges for my current account with Barclays bank.
The problem is I can't open another current account with another bank as I have a bad credit rating. (Stems from my uni days!) The only thing I am offered is a cash card account.
I know Barclays have charged me quite a lot - around £750 - and it would go a long way in clearing my debt mountain.
My dilema is that cash card accounts don't allow you to do much and it will limit greatly what I can do. What is the likelihood that Barclays would want to close my account?
I also had an HSBC account that is now closed. They also charged me quite a bit. Is there any way I could claim back for a closed account?0 -
Just thought i wuld give a quick update..A&L "closed " my partners bank account down due to the fact we had claimed £1000 in bank charges from them! i the took it to the F.O and we won £200 compensation and the account is still open! took about 6 weeks in total!
we have already changed to Halifax to get £100 for switching...lovely!0 -
Alliance and Leicester closed our account after we told them we did not accept thier offer of settlement, not instantly but within 6 weeks.0

I claimed 400 pounds from Smile Bank 'The Ethical Bank', they agreed to pay me back but it took them several weeks, in the meantime they kept on applying charges, when i sent a second letter they were extremely rude to me on the phone. My account has not been closed but i cant set up any direct debits, i dont have access to previous balances, interestingly i have been told this is because they are worried about my welfare0

Halifax have closed my current account after refusing to pay my bank charges of £2000 from last 3 years. I have been paying all my charges I inccur and have constantly had additional charges added which make me constantly overdrawn and they have now also charged me £280 for being £200 overdrawn on my account which has no overdraft and given it to a debt collection agency!0

I think smile are bullying me now. After claiming £600 charges earlier in year, they sent me a secure message warning me of how I must run my account or they will confiscate my cards. Current account - £678 overdrawn - limit £900. savings £500 and Credit card -£233 but limit is £1800.
£1000 paid in every month - £700 transferred out of current account to pay bills. they have now told me that my credit card will not be renewed after 30 sept because I missed one payment. yet that was accidental and even though I have been loyal for four years and am now claiming extra charges they treat me like this.
so plan is wage to be paid in bills account All & Leicest and slowly pay off my credit card and overdraft then close them all with smile and transfer my savings.:TMortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230
