Thought people would be interested in this, especially if you're with the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society.

However, anyone who banks with the Norwich and Peterborough should take a look at the following report, and shouldn't be put off reclaiming because of this intimidation tactic:

A friend of mine received a letter from N&P today saying the vary same thing!!
She had reclaimed her charges, initialy they said they were only going to pay 58.00 back (she had claimed just over 1000), she wrote back refusing to accept this saying she will take the matter to court, and they wrote back saying that they would pay her 600 now if she forgot about the rest, but if she wanted to claim the full amount they would close her account!!!!:mad:0 -
I was wondering if anyone could help me.. I want to try and claim from HSBC, I'm worried because I have high interest acc for my kids, they are linked to my name, can they close these as well as my accounts? I'm just worried that that tenner gone in each month for the wee ones could be swallowed up by my overdrafts!!
Thanks:eek::hello: I'm new - I'll learn, I hope!
Proud to be dealing with my debts! :rolleyes2

we all fear that our banks will shutdown our accounts if we claim back the charges, to me this is just their way of being petty and i wonder if they can legally do such a thing without a valid reason?
what can we do if they try dirty tricks like stop credit/debit cards from being used (claim stolen when not the case!), stop D/D & S/O's??0 -

Hi novelli, if the Norwich and Peterborough threaten to close your friend's account, and did so, that would be classed as retaliatory action by the Ombudsman, as that 2nd link showed, they do take a dim view of that, and have awarded compensation in such cases. Your friend may wish to make a complaint to the Ombudsman about the threat.0 -
Hi ,
well ive had nothing but crap from natwest , they didnt cancel a dd which i asked them 3 times to do so then i find im overdrawn £270 JUST charges , then they stopped me using phone banking and online banking for about a month noone told me why then i find out because my 2 accounts are linked and one of the accounts was overdrawn they actually shut my account down cancelled my card (altho i can go into branch and withdraw money with my passport ) but still INCONVIENCE !!
Ok anyway ive sent them letters about the 6 years charges on account one response from them was "We will look into your claim and get back to you within 6-7 weeks" . then find out my dad got his money within 1 month of sending off for bank statements he seems to think im probably outcasted because im a single person ?? can this be right surely not !
Well ive submitted now to take them to court dont see why i should wait 6-7 weeks for just an answer when everyone else i know have got their monies yet im put aside !! NATWEST SUCK omg so not happy :mad::mad:
well wish me luck hoping for Full £1336 back now would of accepted £1000 but oh well more for me hehe
Good luck all0 -
After going through my statements, it appears they owe 418.00 in charges.
The question:-
I have 2 accounts with NatWest. With the fear of closing down bank accounts- if this were to happen to account number 1- after claiming, WOULD it be likely to happen to account number 2 also(as the overdraft is rather larges right now, and THAT concerns me!!)
Any hints and tips MUCH welcomed!!!!

i got 2 accounts with natwest they froze my accounts soon as i ordered my statements but then i was overdrawn due to the charges my dad hasnt lost his account and he claimed and got his money from natwest so could go either way i guess0 -
Hmmm. Interesting. Cheers Icecube...
I have my statements and there were no problems with that.
So, what have you had to do since?
See, I am overdrawn on both accounts as it stands but would just like to clear the smaller one for now.
Letter will be registered post tomorrow anyway.

well at the mo im not actually able to use my accounts they kinda barred them altho i was able to go into branch and withdrawl money that was still going into my account , only one of my accounts is overdrawn ( didnt have overdraft either) there saying THIS is why my accounts on hold but i dont think so all started soon as i got my statements yanno , but well right now im waiting on the 14 days to be up after sending out the 2nd letter to bank and then taking them to the ombmisman (sp?) then if that dont work then will pay the court fees and get that ball rolling i wont take this laying down like they seem to think il just forget bout it :mad: LIKE HECK lol .
So it could go either way you could get account closed or barred or just get paid out depends on them really .. are your 2 accounts linked within the branches at all ? coz thats another thing mine were ...0
