  • Hi Andrew winter ,
Im curious as to why your bank is going to close your account but are not paying you the full amount that you asked for?
Are you taking them to court because they wont pay the full amount or that they are closing your account
  • At this stage they don't even know that I'm going ahead with court action!

What's happened is that I've written to them on several occasions asking them to repay £139 in banking charges. They have refused and wrote to me this morning saying that they are only prepared to repay half of the stated amount (as a gesture of "good will") and that, because I'm clearly refusing to abide by their terms and conditions, they are going to close my account on 2 March. They even sent me a piece of paper that they want me to sign and return to them agreeing to all this!

Suffice to say, I won't be signing their piece of paper and have now started court proceedings to recoup all my money. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to force them to keep the account open as I can't repay the full amount in just a month.

Nationwide have just written to me saying they are going to close my account in 30 days, I am going to my branch tomorrow to withdraw my money from that account and my childrens savings accounts that are with them. I will then close all the accounts myself.

I have just claimed (and got) back 1000 worth of charges.

  • Reading all these threads it seems to me that Natiowide have been making so much money from stealing from its customers that it can afford to close so many accounts.
My daughter has a savings account and I have encouraged for her to use it but now she doesnt want to use one any more.
I think its a shame that people seem not to be able to insist that they have their wages paid in cash.

  • Barclays have closed the account i am claiming charges from but not the second account i have with them if that helps anyone

I have also susessfully reclaimed charges back from Natwest with no nention of bank account closure yet!

I moved my banking last year over to the cooperitive bank so it wouldnt cause a problem if they did close them due to claiming back charges

Has anyone had any success with Tesco credit card charges (which are now £12 so they must be accepting that it was too high before)? I am tempted to apply, but don't want them to close my account as I like getting the extra Clubcard points!!

Tesco credit card is run by Royal Bank of Scotland so any experiences with them much appreciated (they also own Nat West).

    Thanks in advance

  • hello im a student with the usual student debt, i work a fair bit but due to my pasion for my old car money is always scarse. ive been thinkin about this bank charge situation for sometime and decided to take action, jump on the band wagon :)

however just my luck im with nationwide, i have 3 accounts flex account, cash builder and e-savings. the flex account has a fairly large overdraft around 2k now i know my bank charge refund will not cover tht so if they decide to lose my lifetime custom with them and close my account will they ask for the overdraft to be paid back in full as im in no position to do so being student n all tht. or can i arange a repayment scheme to pay the amount gradually which im more than happy to do

any advice would be hugely appreciated, thank god i found this site its such an inspiration to finally sort my finances out!!!

    thank u in advance
