Hi Geek, thanks for the reply. Not sure how i missed that thread, i think i was a wee bit overloaded by so much reading of the forum.
I hadn't thought about converting my present student account to a current, thats a stroke of genius that. Either option though, closing it and opening another or converting it and opening another means that i have to wait approx 4 weeks for the new student account to open i believe, so which ever route i think i'll have to hold off my claim till then. Ho hum, revenge best served cold and all that.
Thanks again0 -

Hi there,
I am just going to start claiming bank charges from NatWest, where I have a 2000 overdraft which is almost always to the limit - sometimes even below the limit. Would NatWest see this as a way to threaten to close the account and ask me to repay the overdraft? I would not be able to do that since I'm a student and in a bad financial situation generally.0 -

Yes this is a likely outcome and you'll need to repay immediately upon account closure (unlike the banks who drag their heels as much as poss) How about opening another account in advance (with OD facility) and then starting your claim.0 -

My problem is not the account (I have one at Lloyds which I don't use) but the fact that I will have to find 2K to pay off, which I can't at the moment - not sure if I can open another account with an OD facility because my credit score is not very good these days0 -
I was charged £30 in 2 successive months (July and August) by Nationwide. I complained in writing and telephone and eventually received a letter in November confirming that the error was there's and that £30 would be refunded. I complained that the other £30 was owed but Nationwide never refunded it. I spoke with a senior Customer Services advisor and they assured me the person dealing with the matter would resolve it would nothing happened. I had no option to make an online claim through the small claims court. Nationwide responded by acknowledging fault, refunding the £30, the £30 court fee and as an act of good the £7 interest I had incurred in December in over draft fees. I then received a letter a week later closing my account in 30 days. Having been with Nationwide for 26 years and have them admit fault on this and then fail to fully refund the charges and then close my account was interesting customer service.0

I have three accounts with Natwest. Reserve (savings), Current and Step. I am in default with Current by £35.00 but that is one of their excessive charges, which i had been trying to get back and since i didnt pay them they closed my accounts. However, in the reserve account, i have over £1,000 that i cannot get to as they wont let me have the money back until the Current account is paid off. 1st letter gone to them to get over £1800 charges back and received a response that they are looking into it. Next Thursday 2nd letter going as the 14 days are up.:rotfl:

hi
just worked out lloyds/tsb have charged my wife and i about £17,000 over the past 5yrs but can't open another account for our business because of an I.V.A. we entered last year if they close our account we can't pay our card transactions into another business account because no other banks are interested.0 -
Hi there, just to confirm I claimed back bank charges from Nationwide and they eventually paid up but then sent a letter closing the account in 30 days. I will be complaining to the FSO about this and will let you know what happens.0

So if I were in a business relationship with you and I do not conduct my affairs properly in that relationsship (and BTW that is the underlying reason for any bank unilaterally clsing an account),I would report you to the availanle authority? I doubt I would get very far, as you would have the right not to have me as your client, The same goea for the banks,
TBUH you did not count the cost of your actionsl it;s a bit too late for tears now!0
