    Hello,

I thought people on this thread might find this free eye test voucher (worth £20) handy:

  • An easy way to measure your pupil distance is to look through a pair of binoculars and adjust them until you see a clear circle of vision them measure the distance between the centres of the eyepiece

I'm no optician, but every time I have a new pair of glasses my eyes are measured in relation to the frame so that the central part of the lens is where my eye looks - I had a pair of old lenses fitted into new frames at a cheapie market stall once and they were never quite right even though the prescription was fine.

This is the danger with old lens in a new frame fitted in a market. The on-line stores and the high street companies use the same vendors there are only a few Nikon, 2 french suppliers, 2 US suppliers, and another Japanese one all based in the UK. The web and high street places just fax, email the order to them and the lens are sent back in the post. Can be finished and popped into the fram by the high street or at the production lab.

You problem was the old lens and the frame and the lack of skill, limitted option at the market stall!

I have just had my eyetes at Specsavers Stockport today, and at the end asked if they could measure my pupil distance, the optician said yes, but there would be a charge, tootled off and came back and said it was £15 !!!!

    I declined !

Sometimes even the High Street opticians don't get it right :(

I bought a new pair of glasses from Vision Express, I'd never been there before but the other half pushed me into it. I'm now stuck with a pair of glasses that give me headaches and I can't wear, I've had to resort to wearing my old pair from Specsavers who always got it right.

Just waited 2 months for my glasses from Vision Express not very Express! Not very happy about service there either. Wished I had seen this thread before I could have saved myself a few hundred pounds

    Hi

I love this site so finally registered and making my first (hopefully of many!) post.

Glasses Direct has been in the news recently so there could already be a post about it (searched through to check but sorry if its already been done!)

Basically Glasses Direct can afford to do their glasses so cheaply as they don't have to fork out for expensive premises and staff etc so they can have lower overheads therefore lower prices (yippee!).

I've had a look and they have some nice designs - inc rimless ones (35 pounds inc frames + lens + case + delivery + guarantee).... they're the most expensive ones on there i think! :o

    Take a look for yourself:

    Hope this helps some people!

    Cheers,

  • I used the free eye test voucher at D&A last week. During the course of the test I requested that my pupil distance be measured and the optician asked me if I was thinking of buying glasses on the internet. I just told her that I was unsure and nothing else was said. She measured my pupil distance without hesitation and wrote it down on my prescription. Having tried on a few pairs of glasses after the test, I staved-off the sales assistant by saying that I needed to come back with my wife. 'Optical4 less' here I now come - BRILLIANT!!!!
