Last time I got new lenses for my glasses I asked the lady to write the Pd on my prescription, she was more than happy to.
  • Thanks for the information on Optical4less.com. I am in need of new glasses, I will be cotacting the above in the near future. Once again thank you.

I just got some new sunglasses from Direct Specs in Beeston, Notts. Frame £5, lenses £20 (they start from £15), tint £10, and used a £5 voucher from their website. Very pleased :-)

i got my d&a optician to give me the pupil distance.

it helps if you chat to the optician and explain that you want a full prescription.

i simply told mine about optical4less and he was happy to measure me accurately and provide a clear detailed prescription. not bad since the eye test was free in the first place :) Boots then happily adjusted the glasses to fit me properly and again were happy to do it free of charge.

re optical4less, while the glasses were fine the service may well be lacking in case of problems. personally i have emailed them twice about a problem with one of nosepads always falling off and now has gone missing. all they have to do is mail me a nosepad which would cost them pennies but i have not had a reply. maybe albert is reading!

Had to tell you about a website called optical4less.com

I ordered two pairs of specs on the 15th April. One pair of rimless, and a pair of standard rectagular specs !!

Well they arrived this morning (26th) from hong kong and i`m absolutely delighted with them. The prescription is spot on and the frames are gorgeous!!I am amazed that I only paid £37 including postage for the two pairs !!

The website is done in dollars, and the pound being stronger than the dollar makes an instant saving !!

You can even pay by paypal !!

Just thought i`d recommend them !

Sometimes even the High Street opticians don't get it right :(

I bought a new pair of glasses from Vision Express, I'd never been there before but the other half pushed me into it. I'm now stuck with a pair of glasses that give me headaches and I can't wear, I've had to resort to wearing my old pair from Specsavers who always got it right.

I noticed you were also in Gloucester. I bought some glasses from Specsavers just before xmas after having my eyes tested at boots. (the glasses were cheaper in specsavers). Anyway to cut a long story short, i was getting headaches constantly, so went to have my eyes tested at Dolland and aitchinson. Indeed my prescription was completely different to that of boots. So i went to specsavers for some advice of what to do...... and do you know what they did....... replaced my lenses to my new prescription FREE OF CHARGE, even though it wasn`t there fault. Now I don`t have headaches and have comfortable vision with my new specs. Even ordered some more stylish glasses from optical4less.com.

So it`s worth kicking up a stink about it. I would`ve gone straight to boots to give them a rollicking, but thought specsavers could advize me on what to do !!

    Worth looking in to !

I emailed Optical4Less asking if they'd set up a discount for us MSE'rs.

They have offered 6% off all orders over $60 (which is 1 top of the range pair with tints, or 2 pairs of budget glasses). Details on the discounts and vouchers forum:

I have heard alot about optical4less.com. Generally most people seem to be satisfied. But others have complained about their lousy customer service for which I have had personal experience.

I is all well and good if every thing goes according to plan heaven help you if you have a quarry. They do not answer e-mails. It took them three weeks to let me know that the colour of my choice of frame was out of stock, and this was after I had been e-mailing them to ask why my order was taking so long. I complained and was more or less told that I should choose another colour or else....... finally I did choose the colour and they emailed me to say that they had refunded me. After that they did not reply to any of my subequent e-mails.

Another thing to bear in mind with optical4less is that some of their lenses are glass especially the high index ones. A few people have complained that their glasses arrived shattered on delivery. Optical4less then point out the small print in their conditions of service saying they are not responsible.

So beware. I am now awaiting delivery from another on-line retailer 39dollarglasses.com. so far their customer service appears much better than the above and I feel optimistic.

When I receive my new specs I will let you all know. Meanwhile It's consumer beware

I ordered a pair of single vision lens glasses from optical4less in June. Had to get the thin lenses so cost of rimless glasses about £42. Delivery was just over 2 weeks and I'm pleased with the glasses for distance use.

I have variofocals purchased 2 years ago from Costco (£185) as my main glasses. I really need variofocals as my sight is poor at short and long distance. In view of the strength of my prescription (just call me "life in a goldfish bowl") I need the very thin (1.67) variofocal lenses offered by optica4less for $175. Total cost of rimless frames/lenses would be over £120.

I'm reluctant to order variofocals over the net because of earlier comments from an optician re a marking having to be made at a particular point on the lens....I remember having this done by Costco when ordering my current glasses. The cost in the UK of similar frames/lenses would be £300+, so there's a big price difference.

Has anyone ordered variofocals over the net or from optical4less? Anything to report (good or bad)?

    Thanks.

    I've just discovered another site:

    http://www.goggles4u.com/

I've placed and order with them, some of the frames appear to be designer, 2 pairs with express delivery to the UK £33 ordered on Friday According to the tracking system they were shipped Sunday.

No idea if there any good will report back in a few days when they arrive.
