International & UK CallChecker discussion

Calling from a UK mobile is likely to be very expensive (40p or more per minute is likely).
Use a landline.
From a landline you will pay for calling the 084 number (i.e. what the MSE International Callchecker shows - your line provider's connection fee + 4.08p per minute).
So,,,,, if say the 0844 number is 5ppm & Dialwise is 4.08ppm - do I end up paying 9.08p for every minute (plus con fee) ?0 -
No, the link to the MSE International CallChecker I gave you in post #158 tells you all you need to know.
From a BT landline, you will be charged a 13.1p connection fee + 4.08p/minute.
Nothing else.
Dialwise* will get a cut of the 4.08p/minute from BT (that's how they make their money) and BT will keep the rest.
* Their star rating of 2 out of 5 indicates there are dissatisfied customers. OTOH, 3 out of 5 appears to be the highest score achieved.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I've been using various VoIP providers but now many seem to have stopped working with automated menus... and the call quality is a lot worse than it was.
(the technical term is DMTF dial tones possibly not being sent correctly)
Can anyone recommend any better providers? Especially one with callback.
(the practice of getting a mobile number in one country to recieve a call, connecting over the internet to another mobile in another country is being cracked down on so that could be the problem - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17551858 )Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker0 -

The Virgin Media Non Geographic call rate types are listed in PDF document 010911_Non%20geo_V1.pdf once you have the charge code then use, the call rates PDF Residential_Cable_April12.pdf sorry I cant post the full store.virginmedia. URL s
Why is the MSE call checker not able to get these rates from Virgin Media directly, or by downloading these two PDF files.
Clearly Virgin is overcharging on access call rates compared to BT. I've started to use a VOIP phone provider generally with acceptable rates for uk calls but there is not much information on the 0843, 0844 call rates which can give access to the other low cost providers. All this confusion and obfuscation is not good for consumers which makes me think Ofcom arent doing the job.

WEll I'm very happy , been using the site for a few years now
to call Gibraltar with BT 27.5p dailwise 2.04p
Canada with BT 19.4 Dialwise 0.51p
BT's 13.1p setup fee is to all international calls even there own so I save a fortune and i can aford to call when ever i want
Keep up the GOOD WORK :T :money:0 -

Hi there, I’ve found that one of the calling companys in the callchecker Foo call has made an error on a voucher code. Well I say me, it was my sister actually
She got a foo call code for 50% free extra credit but when she used the code on the foo call iphone app it doubled her credit! The same code worked for me to! Its clearly an error by them, so get in there quick before they fix it
the code is: FCFIFTY

I recently dumped BT due to their misselling and one of the changes is that although Callchecker gives 1899 as the cheapest in a number of cases, TalkTalk do not allow prefixes. When getting the list for calling a USA landline, 1899 is at the top. Additionally, unlike before, a lot of misdialling (actually failure of the dialling to be correctly picked up at the exchange) is occurring leading to failed attempts to connect and also within the UK at least certain (perhaps all) 0845 numbers are not recognised at all. Just now I was trying repeatedly to call the USA using 1899 (08081708708) and every time it rang UK style, not with the USA ring tone, and nobody replied. I gave up and will take another provider further down the callchecker list. This is very different from my excellent experience of 1899 as a prefix while with BT and can only assume it has something somehow to do with changing landline providers.0
