I have a virgin landline and am trying to figure out whether I would benefit from using 1899 service.
If I call the 0808 1708 708 number, would I be charged the 14p connection fee from virgin, and would they charge me the going rate for dialing an 08 number? ( i think like 10 p a min)
then ontop of that i would pay 5p connection from 1899 as well as an additional 1p a min?
OR is the 0808 number free to call, and I would only be charged 14p virgin connection + 5p 1899 connection + 1 p a minute call time??
Also same goes for dialling 0845/0870 numbers from Auracall--- how much will Virgin charge me to call the 3000 number?
If it does work out cheaper I may aswell cease paying for evening and weekend calls and stick to 1899 etc
Side: the Alert Newbie! thing is quite funny, how considerate of MSE0 -
If you have a 1899 account, calls to 01/02/03 numbers will cost you 5p connection and 1p/minute via the Freephone 0808 1 708 708 number (Virgin cannot charge you for calling a Freephone number - not even a connection fee).
Re Auracall; I have no previous knowledge of them but I assume you're talking about calling their 0844 862 3000 number to make calls. Virgin charge very high rates to call 0844 numbers (5.1p/minute as opposed to BT's 1.02p/minute in the case of the 0844 862 range). Avoid.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hello all
Did the international call checker for virgin to usa.
Topupnow seems to be the way to go for us - convenience of using same landline etc
A couple of questions - we are ex directory so how will the 0911-0331 331 premium number know who we are to credit our landline? or do manually reveal it with 141 or whatever it is?
During the call to usa do u get a warning before it cuts u off?
Have u used this servive from a virgin land line?
Any issues with getting billed from the premium number (overcharging etc)?
TIA

Just because you are XD, that doesn't mean your CLI is not sent.
I never use pre-paid providers so cannot answer you other questions except to say that Virgin Media charge a fixed fee of £1.5319 for calls to that 0911 033 number.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I used the planet talk instant dial with an access number to call Jamaica, as suggested on this website at 8.17p per min and a 12.5p connection fee. I dialled twice and didn't get through to the person I was trying to call but yet it sounded like a pre-recorded answer where the caller kept me holding on the line making it sound like he'd gone to get someone but no one came to the phone. I hung up after about 1 minute and when I checked my phone bill I'd been charged 68p for the call and 38p connection fee 1st time, then 68p for the call and 48p connection the 2nd time. I will not use that access code again I think it's a scam. I'll stick to calling cards.0

Hi,
I'm looking for the cheapest way to call from UK (landline and mobile) to an Australian mobile.
I see lots of quotes, but wonder if: when making a call, are we charged BOTH the quoted price (1ppm / 6ppm) as well as - for e.g 0845 - access fee ?
cheers0 -
It depends on your landline provider and your mobile provider/contract.
Assuming you have a BT landline, the MSE International CallChecker shows THESE are your options.
You will have to check with your mobile provider to see what you'll have to pay using that.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I don't think the Callchecker is correct for Simply-Fone from a Virgin Media landline any more:-
Simply-Fone 0.5p/min Simply Dial 08430 154404
New official costs (from http://shop.virginmedia.com/phone/calling-costs.html):-
Charge Band PG22
Connection Fee (ppc) 13.24
Standard Call Rate (ppm) 4.08
Daytime Evening 4.080 -
Thanks folks,
I have now used Dialwise a couple of times.
I just have to find out if I am paying both 4.08p for dialwise, as well as fees for calling the 0844 number ?
I am also looking for the cheapest way for UK-mobile to Oz-mobile (Voda).
I am currently on Virgin & 02 payg.0 -
Calling from a UK mobile is likely to be very expensive (40p or more per minute is likely).
Use a landline.
From a landline you will pay for calling the 084 number (i.e. what the MSE International Callchecker shows - your line provider's connection fee + 4.08p per minute).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
