Advertised calls at 6p/min but once you've signed up, gone through the meat grinder of required information and call the number, it diverts you to a different number where calls are charged ABOVE BT rates (25p/min). I'm currently paying 20.9p/min in my calling circle with TalkTalk.
What destination are you referring to ?0 -
I find cheap spam net is good, I use them a lot fo ringing around my contacts for event planning etc, its 5p/min and there is no connection charges or any of that, call quality is great, plus you can ring anytime of the day as many of my calls are peak and some of the other providers block calls to some networks at peak times I notice.
Hope that helps.
The OP is a out and out Spammer if you check there posting record all they do is promote products supplied by Crosby Systems.0 -

Contrast this with www.18185.co.uk where you just dial a prefix code on your landline then the normal number and are not charged if the other person doesn't answer (if they don't have voicemail).
Most of the cheapest 0844 providers seem to only manage to quote this price by purposely failing to connect a large number of their calls which they then still take the money on.:mad::mad::mad:
I want to use my Virgin landline ('free' calls at weekends) to call a UK mobile number and reading through all the :beer:posts it seems that the best/cheapest one to use is the www.18185.co.uk as quoted.
Just having a look at their website I see that there is a 5p connection charge.I am a bit confused now.Well I am a girl.
Help please.
Me just being a girl xx could someone please confirm that I have got it right?:smileyheaMagenta0 -
Hi Magenta, calls are free to UK landlines with 18185 plus 5p connection fee, the connection fee is what most call providers charge once you are connected. Or in other words, if you call someone, and once that person picks up the phone, the call provider then automatically charges a connection fee.
18185 is one of the cheapest for UK mobiles as well (5p connection + 10p/min), there are cheaper options though there will be a connection fee of 12.24p as you are with Virgin. 12.24p is the current connection fee price if you make a call directly through Virgin. If you use another call provider using a prefix number such 18185 via your Virgin landline then that call provider will charge a seperate connection fee, you won't be charged anything by Virgin.
Of course it does also depend how long your conversations on your mobile last for. In that case you might want to try Budgetcom – just dial 0844 861 2612 directly through your Virgin landline followed by the mobile number you are calling. Budgetcom charges 5.1p/min for the call, you will also be charged Virgins 12.24p connection fee. Should still work out cheaper than most if you're a heavy mobile user.
The only problem with the likes of Budgetcom (known as an override provider), and as pointed out by NonGeographicalMan, even if the person you call when using this type of provider doesn't pick up you will still be charged Virgins connection fee plus whatever the override provider charges per minute. Put simply, calling override providers will be recognised as a normal call by Virgin, so you will be charged as with a normal call. For example, as Budgetcom's number is an 0844 number Virgin will recognise this as a regular 0844 number call and will charge you the going rate for that number which is 5.1p/min + 12.24p connection fee. That doesn't mean you'll be charged twice, this is how override providers work, Virgin will charge you for the call then in turn Virgin pays the override provider. I think I've got that right. Or in other words, you start paying as soon as you're connected to the override provider, thus even if the person doesn’t pick up, you'll have paid for a minute's call.
Don’t let this put you off though, try the override provider first and see how you get on.
Have a look at the UK CallChecker for comparisons.
Incidentally, according to the callchecker CheapestCalls charge 0p/min via a Virgin landline for mobile weekend calls, just dial 0871 999 3838. This could be because Virgin doesn’t charge for 0871 calls during the weekends. I guess that also includes the connection fee as with BT. Dang, it's cheaper making weekend mobile calls with Virgin! You lucky sod!Though BT appears cheaper than Virgin for weekday calls.
Hope that explains things.0 -

As a result, call charges are higher, 5p connection + 1p/minute to call UK 01/02/03 numbers and 5p connection + 6p/minute at weekends or 10p/minute weekdays to call UK mobile numbers for example.

Magenta might find it cheaper during the week to call mobile to mobile in that case. There are a few mobile providers who allow this. Doh! I mean free mobile to mobile calls that is. It doesn't seem much point having a landline otherwise, unless you're using it for other things.0

Hi,
There is no option on the call checker for N Cyprus - can anyone share some numbers for landlines and mobiles?0 -
Northern Cyprus has a Turkish area code (+90 392) so I assume Turkish rates apply.

My Virgin bill for 3 weeks (I was away for a week) calls this month is £62. Usually around £35, I queried it, they said a year's deal had ended, also they had increased the Broadband speed and put that price up (without asking me) its a nightmare esp. as my printer has a CABLE wireless connection, so if I change the printer won't work. I cannot afford this huge increase - help!0
