I made the french bread, but I made it with tesco value plain flour instead of strong bread flour to see how it would turn out... it was pleasant if a bit crunchy on the base :D I would make it again, and it was cheap :)

Edit: Yea, the french bread (MR) was a bit flatter than I expected, but any of the basic and seeded loaves (different BM, not MR) I have made in the past have been bigger, and lovely :D

Also would like to echo pink - from reading other posts and comments, it seems as though the fast bake isn't as good as any other settings.

have you added the photo Carrie to photobucket?

Anyhows, I did a white seeded with the Hovis seeded flour I bought on the weekend. We wrapped it in a cloth napkin almost immieidately ( it wasfinished at 12 last night!) and OH took lunch with it today and Ive just had a [STRIKE]couple[/STRIKE] few slices with butter (president, pushed the boat out this week :o) and it was absolutely GORGEOUS.

I dont think theres much point in trekking to ikea for one of those boxes - (although they do look good!) cant see loaves lasting that long TBH

With the sandwich loaf Pink- i take it it rises right to the top of the pan? Making it longer, is that what happens?

We have only done 1lb white, 1.5lb granry, 1.5lb white seeded.

I think we sohuld stick with this as theres less waste.

It was certainly a revelation to go to do a shop yesterday and not have to grumble at 1.20 for a loaf of bread! and feel fleeced ;) :T
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

    How true!

The loaves might work out cheaper, but they don't last as long... they're all eaten up quickly!

Thanks Chipps....does that one look big enough to slice a MR loaf?

I'm so tempted! My erratic slicing is the only thing putting me off replacing shop bought bread completely with homemade.

I would think it is ok. I've got an electric knife too (we only got 2 as wedding presents 25 years ago!) We only started using one of them a couple of years ago, when my mum's even older one gave up the ghost so we gave her our one & opened the "new" one!
Having said that, I am just as useless cutting bread with that as with an ordinary knife!

    Fastbake Loaves:

Fastbake loaves are a bit stodgier than the ordinary sort. But they taste nice! And if you want bread really quickly they are fine. As I said in a previous post, my family seem to prefer them for some reason, which is fine by me as I don't have to remember so far in avance if bread is needed!
  • yeah ive done what the link said and also the pic is linked via photobucket.which linky codey jobby do i use? (just to be sure?)

anyhoo the loaf turned out very heavy n stodgy (but very nice.....)
so how can i make it lighter n fluffier? ant ideas please?
