  • I work for Royal Mail (not a postie though) and can tell you that Royal Mail make a HUGE effort at Xmas to try and deliver everything as quickly and efficiently as possible. Staff who work in admin departments, where work is less busy at Xmas, volunteer to help out in the sorting offices and delivering mail. Plus Royal Mail recruit loads of extra staff to help out over Xmas.

I don't live in Scotland, so can't comment about the conditions up there, but usually when we have snow, the main roads are cleared quite quickly. The problem is residential roads where the snow/ice usually isn't cleared.

I hope you all get your prezzies delivered soon
    Merry Christmas!

Well Play are managing to get through, we ordered something last week and it was here today....How can one company deliver and not the others?!

I've been waiting on a Play order for a fortnight now, and I'm in the Midlands where there hasn't been any snow for a week.
  • I'm glad its all clear for you in Glasgow but it certainly isn't in Edinburgh, probably because we also had snow for the week before you did as well as the bad snow last week.

The main roads may be clear now but the side roads and estates where deliveries have to be made are still solid ice and compacted snow.

Same here in parts of Lanarkshire....Main roads are fine, but most side roads and pavements are still covered in thick, thick ice.
    Saved £££'s using coupons/discount codes/cashbacks
Done the Edinburgh Moonwalk 2010(yeh !)
Signed up to do....Woman's 10K Glasgow run
Great Scottish Run and St Andrew's Hospice 6K run and Midnight walk (13 mile)

Its unbelievable the amount of stuff that goes missing -a lot of tea leaves in these parcel depots and royal mail i think .
there probablyt sitting in their nice cosy tea room drinking coffee and eating my chocolates, watching my dvds and reading my books and everyone elses missing stuff !

They should do what they used to do at Argos (maybe still do ) a body search before they go home !
And also wearing my clothes and new leather boots.:rotfl:

Maybe next year the companies will all realise how much money is spent by their customers up here in the north of the UK

Had a massive pile of mail yesterday after nothing for about a week, including 2 out of 3 of my Amazon items (which were ordered at the start of the month) so hopefully starting to catch up. Just hope the weather stays clear or will be back to square one again :(
  • Please people dont take whats said on forums as an insult to your profession, i think people are just making light of the situation. I thought the comment about post office wearing our things, eating chocs etc was painting a comical picture! C'mon folks dont get all serious and angry at this time of year.
If we dont get our mail, its not the end of the world. I do agree though that there are people out there(typical British) that give up at the first sign of "this is gonna be hard"eg snow. Yip Health and Safety gone mad:rotfl: What next Fire fighters cant go into a building thats on fire incase they burn, or soldiers cant go to war incase they get shot?:rotfl::rotfl:
It's hard but we have to work harder and that way we dont suffer, its a knock on effect.
Please people dont get your backs up on this forum. Us british always point the blame, its what we are good at:rotfl:
Put it this way, i know a bin man who took 2 weeks off due to the weather, could he not just have helped in another way- a shovel?

Less hatred people, take words with a pinch of salt!;)

It's not just Xmas Pressies though, some medications are sent through mail, some businesses are struggling from not getting their important mail...
  • Yip thats why if people went that little bit further and let normality remain there wouldn't be all this chaos! Think of the sick and old who aren't able!

I ordered stuff on Friday, delivered by Royal Mail on Sunday - excellent service.

Ordered stuff on Thursday being dispatched by Fed-Ex - still no sign of it.
