What a ridiculous comparrison! Fireman and Riggers get into the job knowing that there is danger associated with the job, they accept that risk and are paid accordingly...posties are not as well paid and shouldn't be expected to risk their health just to get your DVD's through the door.
Just because you can get into work, and sit in your nice warm office, doesn't automatically translate that a postie can get around their route. I'm sure they could get to their depots, but then they have to walk around potentially dangerous and ice covered streets for several hours just to keep ungrateful !!!!!!!s like you happy (a relative term, not sure there is much that would keep materialistic people like you happy).
You've made a number of completely incorrect assumptions in your rely which is insulting to me and is lazy. Just because you do not agree with someone's opinion is not an excuse to resort to lazy stereotypes.
Postmen in this country accept their jobs knowing that they live in a country on roughly the same latitude as Moscow. They know that for 4 months of the year minimum we have a significant chance of poor weather. That's the fact of living where we live and if any postie takes their job without a thought for the fact that they will be required to deliver mail in bad weather then God help us.
Postmen are not the only people that have to walk the streets or drive their vans in bad conditions or indeed work in bad conditions.
My husband has worked in the oil industry for nearly 20 years, for many of those years at a salary below that of your average postman. In that time he had to deal with force 11 gales and 25 metre waves in the North Sea and 50C temperatures and sand storms in the Sahara. That is what the job requires...if you don't like it then don't do it but don't come moaning and complaining when the weather turns a little chilly or the pavements, in the winter, have snow and ice on them!
Oh, and for your information, there are many items far more vital than DVDs that people are waiting for Royal Mail to deliver. Like say medication and so on.0 -

also at times ts far more prudent to suspend deliveries than have staff getting injured
in heavy snow/ice you will find a postie will do an hour or so delivery (in comparison to whats achieved in better conditions)
so for little gain ,you can have staff out of commission for months0 -
I just want to say a big thank you to my postie in glasgow who has all my parcels delivered up to date with no problems. On another note anyone waiting for Hermes to deliver parcels dont hold your breathe:( My local courier has had my parcels since 9th of december finally got through to the head office today only to be told that the courier may be snowed in and they do not have a contact number to phone and ask so basically give it up to another 2 weeks:eek: and if I have not heard anything within that time contact them. Phoned the companies who I placed the orders with (debenhams, Dorothy Perkins) only to be told that its out of there control must allow 28 days before the can get involved. What is more annoying is that most of the stuff is going to have to be returned as it is now no good to me so looks like I wont be receiving my money till well after the new year:mad:0
