  • Amazon just emailed me this morning to say they are resending my order from the end of November, the day we first got snow, and it should be with me by 21/12.

Well, I'd like to thank the posties for the hard work they've been putting in - also the local courier drivers.
I don't think a lot of people appreciate how bad the weather has been for the last few weeks - our road has still got 5 inches of compacted ice in places - and it's no one's fault. The gritter has been up & down it, people have cleared their drives, bits of the road and all the channels to the drains, but we've just run out of space to put the snow & ice. There are also now holdups because the council has to get JCBs and lorries in to cart the mixture of snow, grit and salt heaps to the docks.
Things are getting moving again, but of course there will be long delays with the huge volume of goods being transported. Personally, I don't want anyone to risk their safety for a few presents...

It's not just presents though as i said earlier in this thread some companies are reliant on certain items of mail and some people have medication sent through the post....

If my MIL postie can wade through snow and ice to deliver every day they had severe snow why can't others do it?!

Funny how so many people got up a mountain to ski but then stated they couldn't get to schools and work places...

So it's severe weather, a bit dangerous for posties, big whoopie, firemen don't stop doing their job because it's risky, offshore workers take risks every single day to get your fuel...

If our weathers are going to remain this bad as they did in the old days then we simply cannot afford to have our country grind to a halt like this...
  • Some people need to remember that even if YOU have just had a sprinkling of snow, the place your item has come from might have had a lot more than a sprinkling.

I live in Derbyshire where the snow was 3ft high a few weeks ago (nearly melted now). When the snow is 3ft high, you can't drive a vehicle on the road and if you try, then you are a danger to not only yourself, but other people too.

    Zippy x

I got an Amazon order this morning - ordered 6th Dec, 1st class post, got an e-mail saying it was dispatched on the 12th and an estimated delivery of the 15th and it did arrive this morning!

Still waiting on older orders though, and a few from the US that I'm worried about as I may have to pay customs on them, which will no doubt hold things up by the time they send me a card then I pay to have it redelivered!
  • Also, it's all very well and good people calling posties lazy if they couldn't get into work because of the snow..........what if they have children and the schools are closed? what are you supposed to do with your Kids?

Well that's why the whole situation needs to be looked at....

Should be plenty of choice, given how many items will be returned or refused delivery as they arrived too late! :rotfl:

What a ridiculous comparrison! Fireman and Riggers get into the job knowing that there is danger associated with the job, they accept that risk and are paid accordingly...posties are not as well paid and shouldn't be expected to risk their health just to get your DVD's through the door.

Just because you can get into work, and sit in your nice warm office, doesn't automatically translate that a postie can get around their route. I'm sure they could get to their depots, but then they have to walk around potentially dangerous and ice covered streets for several hours just to keep ungrateful !!!!!!!s like you happy (a relative term, not sure there is much that would keep materialistic people like you happy).
