Hi,
We are getting little to no post at the moment and our area hasn't been severely affected by the weather, however, when a large part of the country has been it causes a massive knock-on effect across the board because a huge backlog occurs which is extremely difficult to work through not least because it all has to be stored somewhere. I work for a large delivery company and half it's depots simply had to be closed in the areas which were most severely hit for several days, this coupled with the enormous leap in parcel traffic that happens at this time of the year anyway has resulted in a nightmare. Staff have had to work seven day weeks and well beyond their usual daytime hours to try to alleviate this but doesn't mean it will be cleared overnight. I completely understand that it is affecting people's businesses and they are being leaned on heavily by their customers (goodness -I freak out if a an ebayer emails to ask where a parcel is at the best of times lol, and that's not my livelyhood under threat!)
I'm waiting on my OH's christmas present at the moment but I won't be calling the delivery company to ask where it is as I know they will have problems enough. Consignees are ringing and yelling at us constantly because their things haven't arrived and they just don't seem to understand that just because their area is not badly hit by the weather the processing of their parcel along with the thousands of others has been. What's worse is that there is supposedly more bad weather to come and if it is before the end of this week the RM and delivery companies will not have even sorted through the previous backlog so goodness knows where we will be.
People who say we didn't have this problem thirty years ago seem to be using a popular argument to make out that the RM are just sitting around doing nothing to sort it. There is no point having rose-tinted glasses on here - the country and the way we live our lives are totally different now. We buy way more than we used to, we didn't rely on the post as heavily in those days and we didn't have to have it "now" like these days. There was no Amazon, Ebay etc., there was no internet like there is now. Actually, even just 15-20 years ago the amount expected of me in any employment I had was nowhere near the level expected of us now so I won't have it that "we just got on with it" in those days and now we are simply not pulling our weight. I just wish people could be more patient. Ooh by the way I don't mean you OP I totally understand your questions I just mean people as consumers.0 -
Has anyone contacted Royal Mail about making a claim for missing/delayed post?
I posted a parcel on 1st Dec which hasnt arrived yet and normally i would make a claim after 15 days, but because mail has been delayed due to the snow not sure whether to leave it a bit longer.
My customer is getting impatient
its 15 working days0 -
Ive hardly received any mail at all since the snow began - We basically had no snow near us so I assume its delays everywhere else, although saying that the days I do receive anything now turn up at crazy times instead of my usual 11am - maybe the RM is a bit understaffed for this time of year....MFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11

It still hasn't arrived so I emailed on 10th asking for an update as the person it was for is emigrating on the 14th Dec (tomorrow).
They replied saying it was due to the bad weather and to enquire again on the 15th - I wouldn't mind but fylde coast has had barely any snow at all! :rotfl:
Also the gift is not quite so useful when the person has emigrated the day before...:o
