Help Them?
It seems some folk have got the wrong end of the stick? I never said I was going on Work Placement to "Care For" the mentally ill.
A friend of mine was on placement in a charity shop and a Schizo began throttling an elderly woman volunteer for no reason.
These people should be on placements in psychiatric hospitals and the crims should be digging ditches in the countryside, not rubbing shoulders with me.
The idea is to avoid work placements because you might come into contact with people with mental health problems or criminal convictions? Does the same apply to paid work or study - you'll struggle to find many jobs or courses where coming into contact with people with mental health problems/criminal convictions isn't a distinct possibility.
I'm no fan of the New Deal. But if you're unemployed and insistent avoiding contact with big groups of people, you're really limiting your options.0 -
Hi, What I think the OP is trying to say is that his views have to be respected as much as others views. You would not ask a person of Jewish faith to work in a bacon factory, nor would you ask a vegetarian to work in a slaughterhouse. So why is it wrong for him not to have to work with types of people that he finds difficult to get along with?
The same would be that I certainly wouldn't want to live in a mainly Asian area so I would not expect somebody to force me to work in one.
I would never want to work along side a German so why should I be made to?
I have an aversion to homosexuals, do you think it right that I be made to work in a gay bar?
Everybody has choices and these must be respected.0 -

Thanks for proving you are in fact a troll. If I had any doubts earlier, they are now gone.0 -

Since when did not working with mentally ill people go against a belief? How exactly would the OP know that these people he works with have MH problems? I do and my now ex-hallmates didn't know until the police turned up one evening.
Like messedup says, mentally ill people are more likely to harm themselves than others.
1 in 4 will have some sort of mental health issue at point - would that mean you wouldn't want to work with anyone? Anyone can be mentally ill.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Although i dont agree with people who claim benefits and then moan when they have to do something to earn them, i totally agree with oldestrocker. Offenders are placed on the 'naughty boy' chain gang as a punishment for their crimes against society, and rightly so, why should an innocent person be made to work alongside them.
I do volunteer work with the homeless and sometimes i feel uncomfortable around the ones who are clearly a bit unstable mentally, i also steer clear of drunks and drug users if possible, this does not make me an 'ist'.

Because not every mentally ill person is the same. It's wrong to judge someone in that way. Just because I have a mental illness, doesn't mean that I'm going to turn around and hurt you.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

No. However, I don't decide that I don't like someone based on their race, religion, disabilities, etc.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

We're getting off track here, i wouldnt dislike a person because they were mentally unstable but i may be uncomfortable around them. That is why there are people who are specially trained to help them.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

According to the government though, they are not mentally ill if they are on jobseekers, ATOS will have deemed them fit for work, hence why they are on jobseekers.
You can have mental health problems and also be employable/fit for work, so being on jobseekers doesn't mean the government is saying they are not mentally ill at all.Bought, not Brought0
