I think people should comply with their JSAgreement, yes, and if this involves working with a disadvantaged group then they should do it. I might not feel comfortable working with people from Liverpool (for instance - I love Liverpool really!), should I be allowed to choose not to do this?
We all have preconceived ideas of other social groups, and that creates stigma. I think we should all work towards overcoming stigma, even if it takes us out of our comfort zone.
I agree fully with first paragraph
Second para, I still feel that no one should feel 'forced' out of their comfort zone. For instance I am not saying I would never ever ever work with MH people....but if there was something else on offer then I probably would.
and if my JSA depended on it, then I would do what was asked of me!!:rotfl:0 -
If this is the flexible New Deal (which includes work experience), then the work placement is 4 weeks long.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

I don't want to take part in it, as they send you on Work Placements with the Mentally Ill, Community Service Offenders etc..
predudice intolerant bigot spring to mind. Mental illness can strike anyone at anytime without warning so just think about such things before you condem those worse off than you.0 -
I have been told to attend the Jobcentre and draw up an Actionplan for New Deal.
I don't want to take part in it, as they send you on Work Placements with the Mentally Ill, Community Service Offenders etc..
If I refuse to sign up to New Deal will I be sanctioned for the duration of the Programme, or will they cut my benefits completely.
According to the government though, they are not mentally ill if they are on jobseekers, ATOS will have deemed them fit for work, hence why they are on jobseekers.
Why would you not want to work with people with mental health problems?
Is there a valid reason other than a misconception about mental illness?
Look at it from the point of view of the mentally ill, why should they have to work with people with people who [if there is no valid reason for it] who hold discrimatory views?
Its going to do more damage to a mentally ill persons health having to work with a predujiced person, than it would do for a healthy person to go on a course with someone with mental health issues surely?[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
As you have to take part in the New Deal programme after being on JSA for a set length of time and if you don't have a job by the end of the programme you make a new claim for JSA I'd presume you'd be sanctioned for the length of the programme.
But I do not know this for fact. Are you in an area which is running the New Deal or the Flexible New Deal programme?
When you must take part in New Deal:

There's nothing which states you have to work with the mentally ill.0 -

When you find a job, the employee doesn't get to pick their colleagues, either.
This thread explains in greater details the sanctions you face.

Then are you narrow minded and short sighted. If you are in a comfort zone your not pushing yourself, which means you've lost drive and motivation. comfort zone is the problem with JSA etc because people can stay in bed till 2pm and mope around the house.0 -
Let's not beat around the bush. A lot of people on these programs are disturbed or dangerous, whether the're mental or criminal and that's just the people running these things let alone anyone else.0
