The chidrens tax credit restriction was placed in your tax code tomake sure you only received 10% tax relief on the childrens tax credit(it was only given at 10%) if you had not had a restriction you would have received tax relief at your highest rate (either 22 or 40%)

Ive checked and looks like we ave had this too, why was the 10% restriction applied to some people? would it have been if the gross wage was above a certain amount?
  • Wow thanks for this. I have looked at my dh p60 for 2002/3 and his is a L and we had 2 children so i think we qualify!

I will download form and do a quick letter and post off tomorrow.

Do you send to the tax office area you lived in at the time (2002/3) or tax office area i live in now??

    Thanks again!

  • This is genuine....just got this from my uncle who was given details with his payslip. Ive copied the details, but have left the company details out as they want to charge you for the privilege of making your claim when you can ring your tax office direct to see if you are entitled:

    DEADLINE JAN 2009

    *********************************************************
Millions of pounds are owed to UK parents and families.
The year before tax credits were introduced, there was a different allowance available which was never advertised by the Inland Revenue, now HMRC. You can still claim this £529 - £1,048 allowance and this website has been setup to help you do so.
IMPORTANT: Claims must be submitted by the 31st January 2009 deadline.

You are eligible to claim £529 allowance if:
    • You have a child born between 6th April 1986 and 5th April 2003.
    • The child lived with you for all or part of 2002/2003.
    • You worked and paid tax for all or part of 2002/2003.
You are eligible to claim £1,048 allowance if:

You can answer yes to the above questions and one of your children was born between 6th April 2002 and 5th April 2003.
    Notes
    • Making the claim does not affect your current or future working / child tax credits.
    • Your marital status does not affect your claim. You may be eligible, if you were single, married or living with a partner.
    • You or your partner has to have earned £6,000+ in the 2002/2003 tax year.
    • If you have claimed the allowance back in 2002, you cannot claim it now.
    • If your final tax code on your April 03 P60 ended in a H or a T, you have already had the allowance. (If you are not sure, please apply and we will check it for you.)
    *********************************************************

Sounds complicated but it really isnt. Ive just rang my tax office who said I hadnt been paid it, they then gave me another no. to ring who said I had been paid it so I need to sort it out.

But its worth while you checking!

Surely he's missing a trick then? This would be a great item to do a piece on?
  • Hi Colin13 It is true and you can just phone up your own tax office and find out, like I did today.

You are also right it is scandalous that companies are offering to claim this for you and charge £94, when its so easy to do yourself.

Fella Im surprised Martin hasnt covered this...if he has Im blind!
