• :hello:I also sent off my claim and then sat and suddenly thought oh... maybe should've checked it out a bit more _pale_ (normally would and have NO idea why I didnt) ...Although I did manage to get in touch with 'the entitlements agency' via the freephone number. I was rudely told that claims could take 4 - 5 months and I wouldn't receive a confirmation letter:naughty:!
Beginning to wonder if the whole thing is worth it
Hope this helps :undecided

Best advice: 1. make a claim directly with HMRC and any other government agency that might help you; 2. write to this company stating clearly that you do not want them to represent you, you withdraw any authority you may have unwittingly given them to act on your behalf, and you will not be paying any kind of fee to them.
• best go direct to relevant govt. department (www.direct.gov.uk is a good starting place to look)..

get the proper info, for FREE.

I found the address of my local HMRC office on the HMRC website.
• Hi
I found out about this by accident searching for something else on the net, I rang my tax office and they said just send in a letter with NI number and childs details. They also said it might take a while (up to 12weeks!!!) for a response because of the 31st Oct deadline for tax returns. My tax office today are still only dealing with post from 24th October ... Be aware that you only have until the end of this tax year to claim this as you only get 6 years (there was one available for the year before apparantly but we're too late for that now.
Best thing to do is ring your current tax office and ask them and get your letter in asap.
Good luck.

This one hit my inbasket today (taxcredits.org.uk) from a well-wisher....had never heard of the rebate they were talking about but the site looked genuine....for a couple of seconds...til I saw the links on the side about writing off 75% of my debt and ppi reclaiming....hmmmm.....not very government sounding after all.

Will look into the rebate through HMRC now....

Glad the matter was raised....

Tax rebate - updated 8 October 2008

We are aware of a high number of emails being sent out offering a tax rebate. HMRC would not inform customers of a tax rebate via email, or invite them to complete an online form to receive a rebate of tax.
Do not visit the website contained within the email or disclose any personal or payment information.
Email addresses used to distribute the tax rebate emails include:
• refundtax@hmrc.gov.co.uk
• TaxRefund@hmrc.gov.uk
• service@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
• claims@hmrc.direct.gov.uk
• notice@hmrc.gov.uk
• hmrc@hmrc.gov.uk
• admin@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
• info@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
• no-reply@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
HMRC does not send out emails using these email addresses.
An example of the tax rebate scam:
Example 1 (PDF 286K) (added 11 June 2008).
Example 2 (added 14 August 2007).
