Got hubby to write a letter to tax office asking if they would check and if entitled to refund.

My tax code for 2002/03 was 938T does anyone know if that code means I have/haven't had the tax relief.0

Interesting thread, I think I'll pursue this on Monday.0

A lot of people seem to say that you can only claim 6 years and therefore if you have missed the boat, you can't go back further than that.
I would be very tempted to invoke s.32 of the Limitation Act 1980, actually and try to get the previous years too.
Certainly, you have nothing to lose and much to gain by trying to argue the point.
I'm off to dig out my P60 and see if I have any chance there (knowing my luck, I won't, I never do.
)
Hope the above helps some people.
I don't think section 32 can be used on the tax office. I once asked about it and was told that they are sort of immune if you know what i mean.0 -
What a great thread. Thanks for upping this OP.
I believe that I'm able to claim back.
I have a son who was born in 1992, I was with my husband in 2003 but divorced in 2005. I was the main earner and I think that my tax code ends in 'L'. Also I am at a diffrent address now.
Do I just write up a letter with the info needed on it etc? Do I send the letter to my local tax office... this being Leicester and Northants?
Thanks

My daugther was born in 1991 I was with her dad (married 1996) till July 2001 then we divorced in 2005. Daughter was with her dad until xmas 2001.
I moved in with someone else in 2001 by the time DD came to live with me.
I was working from November 2002 till 2005 but my new partner was also working.
Would i qualify or would it be my ex, i dont know his details anymore.

You need to write to the tax office that dealt with your tax in that year that you are claiming for so i am told. I wrote 3 letter and each were not received (yeah right:rolleyes: ). I have then sent recorded delivery and received the forms which are forms 11ctc from the tax office. You have to fill them in and send them back for the refund. I have put a letter in also about my other letters and stated that they always received my cheques from self employment and they were never sent to them recorded. Funny how my letters about them owing me money were not received:rolleyes: .chrismoney1800 wrote: »What a great thread. Thanks for upping this OP.

Thanks, going to get the letter sent out now! I don't have my P60 does that matter, or shall I call NHS Payroll?
Plus, I have had the problem with the tax office trying to get money off them that I'm owed but they seem to be alot quicker off the mark getting the money off you. So I will pay the £2 for recorded delivery!!
Thanks for your help!

We did not have the P60 either but my husband was working at the same place then so we have sent it to the office that deals with his pay now and put the same ref on. I think you should be ok. We have sent it recorded this time just in case the same happens again.chrismoney1800 wrote: »Thanks, going to get the letter sent out now!
