if anyone knows martin tell him to get this in his email thingy!
  • Need a bit of info. I moved in with my partner (now married) in early 2002. My partner had a 10 yr old (now 16) daughter from a previous relationship. We then had a boy born 06/03/2003 so just before the 5th April 2003 cut-off.

I've checked both our P60's and neither of us got the relief and both our codes ended in L.

My question is though, do I need to claim for our boy who was born the month before the cut-off or should I claim for our daughter ? I ask as you can only put one child down !!

    Thanks

  • If your child was born on and between 6th April 1986-6th April 2003 you could be entitled to 520 pounds and even up to 1040 pounds if your child was born between 6th april 2002- 6th april 2003. All you have to do to see if you are entitled is phone the HMRC on 0845 302 1437 with your national insurance number and they will tell you if you are entitled to it. If you are you will need to complete a form you can find at https://www.hmrc.go.uk/forms/11ctc.pdf and send it to your local tax office which will then pay you. It is called Childrens Tax allowance for tax year 2002/03. Act fast though as the cut off date is 31st January 2009.
