    Help!!

We (hubby actually) claimed this back in April, his tax office is Liverpool.
After several chasing-up phone calls we are getting nowhere.

I've found all his P60's for the last 7 years & we have the relevant ones for the tax years of 2001/2002 and 2002/2003.

His tax code for 2002/2003 is 938, i think, so i'm assuming the tax relief has been applied for that year.

The year in question is 2001/2002. Qualifying for the tax relief doesn't appear to be a problem...they've told us it seems we're entitled to it. However......despite him having P60's for 2001/2002 and the previous year 2000/2001...and being in the same job for the last 22 years......they are now saying because they have no records, he must have been working abroad & have sent him a P85 (Leaving the UK) and a P86 (arrival in the UK)

The only time he's ever left the country in his 38 years is for a fortnight's holiday :|

The last time he phoned, they asked for all the details on his P60 for 2001/2002 and STILL they send these forms.

Help me someone.......i just want them to send the flamin' cheque!:D

    Try one of these:

    If your complaint is about:

    Tax Credits
    Tel: 0845 300 3900

    Self Assessment
    Tel: 0845 900 0444

    National Insurance Contributions
    Tel: 0845 302 1479

    Child Benefit
    Tel: 0845 302 1444

    VAT, Customs, Excise and travel
    Tel: 0845 010 9000

All call centre calls are recorded so the conversation you have should be as good as sending a letter. Tell them what has happened so far and that you are not willing to do all the running around on their behalf. Take a contact name and give them a week or so to get it sorted for you.

If you don't get any joy then you may have to escalate your complaint. Further info at: http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageContactUs_ShowContent&propertyType=document&resetCT=true&id=HMCE_PROD1_025307#P9_620

Thanks for trying to help Llyllyll...but it doesn't come under any of those.

It's a definate tax allowance that was applied to your tax code, so doesn't fit into any of those categories sadly :(

    Hi

After reading the posts about Childrens Tax Credits on here, we wrote to our local tax office on the off chance, not expecting anything really, got a letter today saying we are due a refund of £520, for 2001-2002, so a great big thanks to everyone.

  • really confused. i have been reading on another web forum that i should only claim for the youngest child. shouldnt i just tell them about all of my children?

the reason they have said is because its double between a certain year and if i tell them about older children it will be the standard £545.

i think i am staring to really confuse myseld here.

    please help

    i have 3 children oct 1997,may 2001 and july 2003.
