  • Hi All

Gosh just came by to see what this was all about!

In 2001/2002 I was a single parent and working but I was getting wftc as a top up to my wages as I gave up income support to work.

In 2002/2003 I met my now husband and he was working full time as the highest earner.

Any ideas if I am entitled or not

    Cheers guys

    Claire

    Hi scottishf,

I see no one's answered you, so as I've just done this I'll let you know what I did:

    1) Find your P60s for 2001-2 and 2002-3 and note the Final Tax Code.
    2) Ring 0845 302 1463 and ask whether the Children's Tax Credit was applied for those years. They'll ask for your NI number then the Final Tax Codes for those years and will tell you whether or not you've already had the credit.
    3) If not, they'll ask you to write in enclosing the P60s, giving details of your children's names and dates of birth and asking for an assessment due to Children's Tax Credit not having been applied.

I hope that helps. If you're in Scotland, the number may be different, but I'm sure they'll know it.

    Good luck.

When I phoned, I was told I am too late to claim for 2000-2001 and they are not sure about 2001-2002. Can anyone clarify this please? Surely its not our fault it wasn't claimed if noone was aware of it, or am I being a wee bit thick?

The two financial years in question are 2001-02 and 2002-03. The reason it's important that you claim as soon as possible is that it will soon be too late to claim for 2001-02.

I had no trouble as the chap I spoke to understood what I meant, but see from other posts in this thread that other people had to be more persistent. I'd recommend that you ring again as you will get another operator who may well be more clued up about this. Make sure that you get the claim years correct and the name of the allowance that you're requesting: Children's Tax Credit (not Child Tax Credit).

    Beggar!

My child was born OCTOBER 2003, a few months late!!

    Guess I don't qualify....
  • Hi there, getting quite panicky on this one as only saw the thread re this July this year, knew nothing about it at all & my Daughter was born June 2001.
I wrote to the tax office 23rd July, was received 25th July, still haven't heard a thing, my husbands tax code, so won't talk to me about it, he's at sea, so can't talk to them about it.
Saying that replies are taking about 40 days!!! on tax queries at the moment.
I have no pay slips from that period at all - shredded, so can't ring with tax code, to make it quicker.
Surely they will have to take the 6 years from when they recieved the letter, hope time hasn't run out for me.
We never advised my Husbands payroll that we had a daughter, I don't know whether the tax office would be advised by the child benefit people, also had a Son in 2003, so hoping will be covered too??
I wish they'd hurry up & tell me either way:mad:
