I have just contacted my local tax office and they checked for me over the phone. Unfortunately I have already had this.

I got the number at the bottom of the page of this link -

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/childrens-tax-credit.htm

    It's worth the call :)

I wonder how many other tax refunds are due because people haven't claimed or don't know about them?

I got in touch with the HMRC office that deals with my tax file today. The lady that I spoke to said that although she could see the 11CTC form on their system, it doesn't allow her to complete the form for me. She insisted that I write a letter to them instead, telling them to look into this claim for me. Typed and sent this afternoon, recorded delivery. Let's wait and see now.

Have just come across this and am gobsmacked.......needless to say, I've got straight on to the taxman and even he said he'd learnt something today!

Please could someone explain though how the potential amount of refund is worked out ? I see from the HMRC link that the amount that can be reclaimed say for in 2001/02 is up to £529.

    Any ideas folks?

I think that its £529 for only the eldest child, for a possible three years. With the 6 year claim deadline, 1 year has been missed, so the most I think that is now claimable is 2 x £529.

I claimed two weeks ago and am still waiting to hear back with fingers crossed.

Not sure why they are asking about children born in 1993 - you can only claim back 6 years plus the current year from the Taxman.

I just wrote to my local tax office asking if the allowances were applied to my tax code and if not please could they organise a refund of any monies due.

They then sent me a copy of form 11CTC to complete and return.
