wheels stolen by garage

Seems a stupid thing for the garage to so blatantly do, but maybe they are at the end of their tether with the dispute too, so accept this will push things along one way or another. The police should be involved if only to get a crime reference number, but I wouldn't expect a very speedy response from them as it's hardly going to be in need of urgent attention by their standards.

I bet the police will say its a civil matter if you report this as a theft - probably best to report criminal damage instead if your car has actually been damaged.0

theft is theft
you cant write that off as civil
if the garage had went to the police about being owed money then its a different matter0 -

I am told this might be classed as "conversion to goods" of the disputed debt so in that case the incident would be a Tort rather than a criminal offence (according to my OH anyway).
i suppose to cover all options the OP should report both a theft and criminal damage.0 -
Theft implies intent to deprive permanently - so whilst this may be other things it isn't theft. Yet anyway.0

None of us know the full background to why the garage was not paid, or if the removed parts belonged to the garage, if they did, can it really be classed as theft?0

OK none of us know the full details, but this sounds like a tale of two (or more) wrongs not making a right."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0

Of course the garage had no right to do this, but I would love to hear their side of the story.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

So would I, they must have been very frustrated to go to this extreme.0
