we slag off the company if they ignore us and cancel our orders, then we moan when they honour all our orders and cancel the code - oh right they didnt cancel the code they just upped the minimum spendage! well they aint got anything left on their site for under £15 anyway so i dont see the problem.

give the company a break, as we all say "sometimes we win sometimes we dont, move on the next one"

This is a free board and if someone wants to express frustration they are entitled to do so, just like yourself on other boards! I am in agreement that you win some and lose some and nobody ever wishes any company to bankrupt itself through this forum but you have to let people vent and then move on!

Hi Glad, sorry not to come back sooner but I have been grabbing some time with my Kids watching Strictly and Merlin. The reason we changed the min order value was that was the only thing we could do quickly enough to ensure we didn't go bust! We had done this as an offer to our loyal customers because of the snow this weekend and had not anticipated anyone posting this offer on MSE! Hope you understand, thanks for your comments.

I took it that he meant that the free p&p was the offer for the loyal customers, not the e-voucher, as he mentioned it was because of the snow.

sorry but even reading it again the quote refers to the min order change and then that this offer was for loyal customers so stiil think it means the e-voucher?

there were other things that could have been done quickly, maybe knocking 50p off everything under £25 and calling them sale items as they weren't included in the e-voucher terms :) at the end of the day I wouldn't want to see a small business go under either, although the business doesn't just consist of the website :) they have 14 stores across the country, some of which look quite large

Perhaps I am more sympathetic as a family business owner during what are incredibly difficult times. I am fortunate enough to deal with trade (who know how hard it is out there at the moment) and not directly with the public who are often unable to relate in the same way. Please cut this guy some slack, would you have all preferred to have placed orders and then had them cancelled and rejected?? (perhaps with the money having been taken, like many Large companies do)
And would you also prefer this business collapses (and people lose jobs) due to the genuine and unfortunate (albeit avoidable) mistake???

This isn't a tiny family run company, likely to go bust from a couple of hundred £10 off orders - this is a chain with 16 stores throughout the country.

I still think they are being shabby not honouring the vouchers already issued.

May not be tiny, but its not a big gun like TOMY, ARGOS, AMAZON who have all very recently withdrawn offers AND still charged me, taking 14 days to refund the charge to my account!!! And they could have stomached the glitches far more easily that Hiho.

Like an above poster, you win some you lose some. But I am much happier with updated terms on a voucher than having an order cancelled and funds taken etc.

I did wonder that aswell! I tried to post the actual email that was sent through but it was too big and so deleted it! It says for new customers but says nothing about loyal customers!

I don't like it when any company doesn't honour their advertised deals.

In my experience, though, the big companies do honour their actual deals, just glitches and misprices get cancelled. And that is fair enough, because if it is a misprice or a glitch then we know we are taking a chance, and they are covered by their terms and conditions, so they have the right to cancel.

I think my issue with this is that it isn't a glitch, it was a genuine deal. I fulfilled my part of the deal (signing up for the newsletter) and stored my voucher ready to use later in the year (when more stock comes in, and in time for MILs Jan birthday) but they are not upholding their part of the deal.

I don't expect them to give free postage, I just want £10 off a £15 item as promised. If I hadn't been back to MSE, I wouldn't even know that postage had been free or that the deal was not being honoured.

Yeah I know what you mean that he mentions the minimum order value for the voucher and then next sentence mentions offer for the loyal customers. Just reading that he says "because of the snow this weekend" is what makes me think (just my opinion though!) that he must have meant the free p&p offer which was on for this weekend and because deliveries would be affected by the snow. If that was what he meant it just wasn't very clear unfortunately. Obviously I could be totally wrong!:)
I do agree that they could have found a different way of handling this, maybe cancelling the free p&p on their website for everyone and sending out a code for this instead to all their loyal customers, leaving the new customers still able to use their e-voucher with the terms stated and just paying the p&p on top as normal.

  • There's something really important you are missing here. The offer to loyal customers wasn't the £10 voucher, it was free carriage (I got the email). The mistake they made was not preventing customers from obtaining free carriage when also using the voucher. And far from failing to honour anything, they've been incredible good about it imho, because the T&Cs in the email that have been posted on here clearly say "not valid in conjunction with any other offer". This would include the short term offer on free carriage, so in fact they would be quite within their rights to reject all the orders, but they haven't, so fair play to them. They also say the voucher is for your first order, yet people have obviously been registering under numerous emails and placing multiple orders, and will presumably level further accusations at the company if they don't honour all their orders, which they really shouldn't.
