I think we really need to cut HiHo some slack here... this was an exclusive code, offered by a small independent company, that was then splashed across MSE, which is read by thousands each day. Taking a look at the website it's clear they've been cleaned out, which makes me assume they've received orders into the hundreds (maybe more?), and this could have severely affected their profits. However they are honouring all orders, and by the sounds of it working flat-out to offer a good service to the customers.
Perhaps they should have taken the possibilty of a huge amount of orders into consideration when they decided to offer the code, but again, as a small independent company, I don't think they should have been expected to.
Now that they have a larger customer base and wider awareness (:)) I'm sure they will think a bit more carefully in future!
I smell sour grapes on this thread......
HiHo, you have my praise and gratitude!0 -

The reason we changed the min order value was that was the only thing we could do quickly enough to ensure we didn't go bust! We had done this as an offer to our loyal customers because of the snow this weekend and had not anticipated anyone posting this offer on MSE! Hope you understand, thanks for your comments.

sorry I took this as an offer for new customers (not an offer for existing/loyal customers as you say here) as it stated the e-voucher was off your 1st online purchase
and I'm not against you protecting your business but the first post you made just said
so didn't explain why you were changing the terms of the voucher from a £15 spend to a £25 spendKing_of_the_castle wrote: »Our fab web was a bit ill yesterday and it should not have been letting everyone use their £10 e voucher as well as get free postage. May be a tad strong but totally agree with this... Why should a small, (and very good company) go to the wall because of people abusing them. I've been done over by far larger company recently, withdrawing offers and "moving goalposts" when they had even taken the money from my account.
Hiho have infact honoured all actual orders placed AND apologised on this thread, please remember this isn't a global company who can afford to write off errors - real people, not suits and bonuses!0 -
If I ever started a business, I'd make damn sure I was competent to run it. I wouldn't offer potential customers something and then remove it. I would honour my word.
I would tell the truth. They say that it is the free postage that was a glitch, and therefore caused the problem. Fine, I hadn't got round to ordering and hadn't realised that free postage was being offered, and I would be happy to (was expecting to) pay the postage. But rather than taking the free postage off, they are nearly doubling the minimum spend. That is what I think is not fair - changing the goalposts.
Trust me.
You would not honour your word if you made an error meaning it would be the end of your business & thousands out of your own personal pocket if you did.Not Again0 -

I took it that he meant that the free p&p was the offer for the loyal customers, not the e-voucher, as he mentioned it was because of the snow.0 -

Who is abusing them? As far as I am aware, people were using the offer as it was intended - to get £10 off a £15 spend. The only issue seems to be that their website was also set to free postage. Why not remove the free postage, and continue to honour the deal as stated? It is the only fair and reasonable way to deal with this.
If they cannot afford £10 of a £15 spend, then why promise it to potential customers if they sign up for your newsletter?0 -
Perhaps I am more sympathetic as a family business owner during what are incredibly difficult times. I am fortunate enough to deal with trade (who know how hard it is out there at the moment) and not directly with the public who are often unable to relate in the same way. Please cut this guy some slack, would you have all preferred to have placed orders and then had them cancelled and rejected?? (perhaps with the money having been taken, like many Large companies do)
And would you also prefer this business collapses (and people lose jobs) due to the genuine and unfortunate (albeit avoidable) mistake???0 -

And perhaps they will change their system when they get chance, if you read back up this thread, Andrew clearly states it was the quickest thing they could put into place to sort the glitch before his business got into serious trouble..
But all the negative criticism on here is not helping, he will however see the constructive criticism and perhaps decide to rethink a way around this for those who already have vouchers, who knows?? I doubt he wants this negative publicity/feedback as much as you would like your voucher terms to be reinstated!0 -
I don't know how many vouchers for the £15 spend were sent out and not honoured - but I would think once they're emailed out they would have to be honoured (don't know the legal position - just what I think).
I can undersatnd people making mistakes - we all do it - but we also have to live and learn by the consequences.
As to the offer being for their own customers - if they had just emailed the offer to their database of contacts we'd be none the wiser. It is prominent on the website for all to see.
I don't want to knock this company - but if an offer is there people will take it.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
we slag off the company if they ignore us and cancel our orders, then we moan when they honour all our orders and cancel the code - oh right they didnt cancel the code they just upped the minimum spendage! well they aint got anything left on their site for under £15 anyway so i dont see the problem.
give the company a break, as we all say "sometimes we win sometimes we dont, move on the next one"Top wins - £10,000 lottery/daily mirror, £5000 asda vouchers, £1000 washing machine, 2 week canaries cruise, VIP trip to the olympics, 46" 3D TV, personal chef, kitchen aid mixer, £1000 tesco vouchers - latest prize £10,000 road trip with kit Kat0
