  • various locations on the isle of wight were used in the film "that'll be the day" starring David Essex. a lot of them have now gone but some are still recognisable :(
  • I grew up in Stockport where some of Life on Mars was filmed: External shots of the police station are Stopford House council offices, the Town Hall was used too I remember, oh and the wedding reception that features in S01 Ep08 was filmed in some wooden static buildings where my old youth club was in Woodlands Park.

Just up the road in Marple was used as a location for the Craig Cash/Steve Coogan comedy drama Sunshine.

I also worked and lived in Glossop as a postie, then Hadfield and Tintwistle all of which were used extensively in League of Gentlemen. An episode of Clocking Off was filmed in Glossop too (Pam Ferris's house is on the Hathersage Estate) I saw them filming when I was up there posting.

I recently moved to Ealing, obviously there's Ealing Studios where many things have been filmed. But things that I've noticed out and about - Men Behaving Badly: most of the outdoor shoots are in and around Ealing. Doctor Who episode "Spearhead from Space" was filmed in Ealing Broadway, as were the mock vox-pops in Fry & Laurie.

I was going to mention that. Also bits of Sherlock Holmes and the remake of Alfie were filmed in the NQ.

Erm... the Natwest advert on at the moment shows bits of Spinningfields and one of the new trams... exciting...!

The Ian Brown video for 'Stellify' was filmed around the city centre last year, some of it was going on near my flat.

Loads of stuff has been filmed in Manchester, why can't I think of anything but these?!

Re: Alfie - I was working at CIS when they turned many of the nearby streets into New York. It looked really bizarre!

Bits of Atonement was filmed on Grimsby Fish Docks near the old ice factory.
    Grimsby Hospital featured in Clockwise.
Binbrook near Grimsby featured in Memphis Belle
  • Tissington Hall, the "hidden jewel" just north of Ashbourne on the A515 in Derbyshire's White PeaK, has hosted several scenes from "The Inspector Linley Mysteries". It has also been used as a location for the two most recent productions of "Jane Eyre", although Haddon Hall, near Bakewell, took the credit for these films and was the backdrop for most of the outdoor shots of the fictional Thornfield Hall.
Just across the county border into Staffordshire, at the top of a steep lane from Ilam village with spectacular views towards Dove Dale, the picture book farmyard and stables of the small but fascinating Casterne Hall provided the setting for much of the classic production of "Far From the Madding Crowd" (1967) starring Julie Christie and Alan Bates

Coatham, Redcar, Yorkshire doubled as Dunkirk in Atonement.
There's now an artwork - a director's chair and assorted paraphenalia - on the promanade to commemorate the filming.

Hi there, long time lurker, first time poster here. :)

Mapledurham House, near Reading has been on the film 'The Eagle Has Landed'. Personally, I loved visiting the watermill adjacent more. It's the last working watermill on the Thames and quite a sight.
LBM: June 2023. Amount owed: ~£10,000I've gone debt free before, I can do it again!
  • Saltram House near Plymouth was used in the filming of Sense & Sensibility (the Emma Thompson / Kate Winslet version) as Norland Park, the family home which the Dashwoods have to leave. A lot of the first scenes were filmed in and around the house and the garden - well worth a visit if you like that version
