  • "A Touch of Frost" was filmed in Bradford and Leeds. On Armley Road is an office building that was used as the front of the police station (it used to be Farnell, not sure if it is any more).
  • There's Animal Park next door at Longleat - walking into the grounds and lovely woods is free, but you pay for Safari Park, rides and house and (I think) parking.
The eighties Miss Marple was filmed in Nether Wallop in Hampshire - I remember walking into the village post office and finding it full of old packets of Omo etc. She "lived" in the house next door - well she walked in to the front of it and then came out the back door of somewhere else!
The Building The Dream house is in Witham Friary which is south west of Frome - my OH was one of the professional builders - the contestants only dabbled when a camera was rolling - and he knew who was going to win within twenty minutes of arriving on site!
Salisbury is a good day out and film location. The cathedral has been on the midnight service on Christmas Eve when my children were at the Cathdral School so the eldest spent the program trying to spot all his schoolmates in the choirs!
  • Elizabeth The Golden Age and The Da Vinci Code both filmed scenes in Winchester Cathedral.

Fierce Creatures was filmed at Marwell Zoo.

Children of Men filmed scenes on the Mid Hants railway in Alresford.

Not sure we should be proud of the fact that Shameless :o is based very close to here and the first couple of series were filmed less than a mile away (before it moved to a purpose-built set to the south of the city). Libby's ice-cream van library was parked outside BIL's block of flats in the last series! :D

  • They are currently filming Sherlock Holmes 2 at the Didcot Railway Centre. Not sure if you can get nearby to take a peek but apparently Robert Downey Jnr. Jude Law and Guy Ritchie are all there :T

If anyone watches Cemetry junction, by Ricky Gervais, the town scenes where they are seen coming out of the pub were filmed in Woodstock, Oxon in the main street that leads to one of the entrances to Blenheim palace.

Yeah strangely they were not filmed anywhere near Cemetry Junction. Shame :(
  • HBO's production Game of Thrones was partly filmed in Tollymore Forest Park near Newcastle Co Down, as well as Shane's Castle and Castle Ward. Its a medieval fantasy drama which chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among noble families for control of the Iron Throne. I ended up in the middle of a set whilst out with my dog, it was lunchtime so no one was too bothered, I loved it!!
  • The Royal is filmed at a building on Scarborough's The Esplanade.

Heartbeat is filmed at Grosmont, near Scarborough, and the Yorkshire Yorkshire Moors Railway is a lovely outing there.

There's been a few films and programmes filmed at the old Prison on Dean Road, Scarborough.

Little Voice was filmed in Scarborough.

Too many to mention, really! So many picturesque locations....

As already mentioned, Downton Abbey was filmed in the village of Bampton.
Blenheim Palace has been used in loads of films, and is a great place to visit at any time of year (both the Palace and the grounds). We often come across film crews etc when walking around there. Woodstock (where Blenheim Palace is situated) is also a great place to wander round.
Oxford itself is also a Mecca for film-crews (who mentioned Morse?:p)

... to Chiswick Church in Cardiff where Dr Who was filmed...

    [threadbanner] box [/threadbanner]

As a proper Taff, this got me a little confused, wondering where on earth in Cardiff was Chiswick Church? It turns out the writer's pinched the info from a website offering Doctor Who tours to Cardiff, including a visit to the pretend 'Chiswick church' where the London-based character of Donna gets married. So if you visit, please don't go round asking for the Chiswick Church but head to St John's Church in the centre of town!

If you are interested in 'Who' sites in Cardiff, I'd also recommend checking out the village green at Llandaff Cathedral (used in the first Matt Smith episode), the National Museum of Wales in town (which has been used on a number of occasions), and the front of the old Royal Infirmary, which has passed for a hospital more than once. And don't forget to go down the bay to visit the Torchwood headquarters.

If you can get out of Cardiff, head to the beautiful Southerdown beach (or Bad Wolf Bay), Nash Point (also recently used in Merlin) or the National Museum of Welsh Life (aka St Fagans), which has appeared in various guises.
