  • The Hampton Estate in Puttenham, Surrey was the location for most of the Robin Hood film with Russell Crowe. It's a private estate but many of the views can be seen by walking the North Downs way that runs through it.

The Bourne Woods in Farnham, Surrey was also a location for Gladiator, and is quite picturesque.

If you're a real fan of Midsommer Murders you might recognise the church off Downing Street in Farnham, Surrey, or some of the houses in Thursley, Surrey. Although for most of the locations you'd have to visit Wallingford in Oxford.

I saw a bit about Hot Fuzz and whilst most of that was filmed in Somerset the car chase/driving scenes were filmed in Seale Lane, in Seale, Farnham Surrey.

Also in Seale was the carribean themed wedding in Soldier Soldier (going back a bit now) at Seale Church.

Then there was the film Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law for which the English scenes were filmed in Wonersh and Shere in Surrey.

Lastly, the Wellington Estate/Park near Reading was the location for most of the film first night with Richard Gere and Sean Connory.

  • The Doctor Who xmas special with all the cybermen (The Other Doctor?? something like that) was also filmed at Gloucester Cahedral-I was there watching the night shoots!

Puzzle Wood in the Forest of Dean was in Merlin recently. Its a wonderfully eerie, magical place anyway, and is thought to have inspired JRR Tolkien to create the Ents and Huorns (as well as Shakespeare ;) )
Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!

Lyme Hall in Derbyshire is where the Jennifer Ehle version of Pride & Prejudice was filmed. The lake at the back of the house is where the famous scene of Darcy bathing took place.

Stockport Marketplace has been used for a few films I believe and I know Yanks had scenes filmed there.
  • The village of Bampton in Oxfordshire is where Downton Abbey was filmed and also Highclere Castle near Newbury
  • A beach near us - Freshwater in Pembrokeshire - was used for two films last summer; Robin Hood and Harry Potter's Shell Cottage.
"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."
  • All these were filmed, in part, in the area round Fort William. Local Hero beach scenes - the Silver Sands at Morar: Highlander - The village was built in Glen Nevis, the battle was in Glencoe, other scenes in Glenfinnan. The castle is Eilan Donan on the road from Inverness to Skye; Harry Potter - the railway viaduct you see the Hogwarts Express crossing is the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
  • The 1976 version of the Omen has a church scene filmed at All Saint's Church Fulham SW6. The church is at the Fulham side of Putney Bridge by Bishops Park.
  • The Pennine town of Holmfirth was the setting for "The Last of the Summer Wine" and Sid's Cafe can be found near the centre of town.

Not too far away is the Derbyshire village of Hadfield, near Glossop, where the quirky TV series "League of Gentlemen" was filmed.:j
  • Hi there, I live in Shere, near Guildford in Surrey. The Holiday was filmed here, all very exciting got some really good photos of Cameron Diaz and Jude Law. The filming went on for about six months and the village was "snowed" up for most of this time. It's a beautiful village, very picturesque, you'll recognise it immediately if you've seen the film. Also, we had the Mary Whitehouse programme, starring Julie Walters filmed here more recently - they actually asked us if they could use our kitchen for some of the filming, but they decided to use somebody else's in the end. It was great, seeing her cycling up and down in the street outside. This was about two years ago, I think. We also had the wedding scene in Bridget Jones's Diary (the second one, where her mum had her wedding vows renewed at the end of the film) filmed here, at our Church, which I live right next door to. All very exciting.
  • Another Bracknell location is from the film The Offence starring Sean Connery http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070468/locations
