as a cartographer I thought a great way of showing this would be on an interactive map... I'll look into making one, but in the meantime I found one on Google Maps. Seems I can't post links
so its a bit convoluted to find it but give this a try
Search for 'Famous Movies filmed in the UK' on Google Maps, and change the search options to the right to 'User-created maps'.0 -
In Ashton-under-Lyne (Lancs/greater Mancs) Portland Basin canal area has been used in a number of Corrie scenes, most memorably where Richard Hillman drove gail and the kids into the canal.
And a little road called Bollington Lane, not far from Alderley Edge, is just a short unassuming cut-through I use to go to and from work but one day as I went down I saw several parked cars, a large lorry and police were closing the road off. They let me go through but then closed it off behind me and as I passed the lorry, behind it was a very distinctive green car with an orange paper clip on top. Yep, I'd just driven past what was to be Derek Wilton's death scene!0 -
Crich in Derbyshire was the fictional village of Cardale in Peak Practice.
Crich is very popular with walkers and has the Tramway Museum as a main attraction for a day out. There is also a memorial tower - Cich Stannd- to the Sherwood Forresters regiment. You can climb to the top and on a clear day can see five counties. There is also an excellent bakery and deli in the village centre called "the Loaf"
There is an active community newsletter with more local information. I can't post links but it is called CACN (short for Crich area community news)

In 1970 I was an extra in 'The Onedin Line' which was filmed on Exeter Quay.
Stowe House (School) was used for the Hitler Book Burning scene in 'Indiana Jones' and most of the German Soldiers were actually British Soldiers from the Barracks at Bicester where I was stationed.Life is too short to drink bad wine!0 -
Goathland, North Yorkshire was used as the location for Aidensfield in Heartbeat. When I visited a few years ago the garage and the pub etc all had the frontages up as they appear on the programme.
Aysgarth Upper Falls in the Yorkshire Dales (Wensleydale) was used in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
All Creatures Great and Small was filmed around Wensleydale and Swaledale
I think that exhausts my Yorkshire location knowledge!0 -
I'm from Cardiff. So ofcourse we have Torchwood and Doctor Who. The Tourist Info still have RIP messages from the death of Ianto (that was a very sad day) and the woman who played Gwen always comes in to where I work with her beautiful daughter.
Also we're not too far from Bristol... if you can steal a weekend away... perhaps camping or whatever? Maybe you could go on a Banksy hunt. As I'm sure most of you know Banksy is from bristol and all his work is aorund the city. Grab some books or search the tinternets for the locations and you've got your own treasure hunt. It's very rewarding and fun to do.)

Quadraphenia, the scene in the chemists was around the corner from where I lived and the scene where the post van hits the scooter I saw on my way home from school in Shepherds Bush as was the sweet shop I used where Monty Pythons Ministry of Funny Walks started from and Anna Chandler lived opposite.0

Hot Fuzz was filmed in and around Wells in Somerset. And Sandford the village name in the film is a village some 10 miles away home to Thatchers Cider.
Love that film not being a native to the area but now living close by it's great to watch. Apart from the murders in the film it's so true !!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I'm a local born and bred and I agree, some of it is so true it's scary!
The pub  which features regularly in Hot Fuzz is The Crown which is in the market place and very close to the Cathedral, and the Hotel is a short stroll up the road from there called the Swan Hotel. You also have the Bishops Palace adjoining the Cathedral, :A and St Cuthberts Church at the opposite end of the high street where the village fete scenes were filmed. In fact, if you include the newsagents and the supermarket, you can visit/see the majority of the film sites within a leisurely 15-20 minute stroll!
In addition to Hot Fuzz some scenes for The Libertine (2004) with Johnny Depp were filmed in and around Wells Cathedral.
Last but not least, while this didn't feature in a movie as such, Nicolas Cage who now has a home in the UK, recently did a live broadcast to promote "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" from the Glastonbury Abbey, which is only a 15 minute drive from Wells.£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000
