halifax bank charges (merged)

Hi, I am new to this so not sure if I can actually reclaim my charges - they total over £600 - £30 per transaction and because i have gone over my overdraft limit, plus the charges, my account has now been suspended.
I am trying to open another bank account and would like to know that if i go through the procedure of reclaiming the charges and am successful, will the Halifax just credit my account with the money or will I get a cheque?
Also, regarding the charges, is it normal for them to charge me £30 per transaction - I do my banking online and as such don't receive paper letters - just letters online? They have said they can only charge me for 3 transactions per day, is this normal too? If so, can I actually reclaim these charges as they are saying they are only allowed to charge me for 3.
When i phoned the head office up they were really, really nasty to me and had me in tears when all I was trying to do was make them aware of the situation and that I was trying to sort it out so I don't really want to have to speak to them again, can I just do it by post? Sorry to ramble on, just confused.
Any advice would be much appreciated.0 -
Hi.
my first post.
I followed Martins instructions, sent off letter to Halifax and got a reply today, my last 6 years charges are £366 without interest, they are offereing £253 in full and final settlement. I think thats great as until I read this site I assumed it was all in the past. If I turn it down are they likely to up there offer and is there a letter template somewhere on here to fill in...or should I just take the money...especially considering I just lost £400 to Farepak!!0 -
Pete I've had the exact same problem with the Halifax. I sent a letter in August, got a reply shortly after saying the duplicates were on their way and have had nothing since! I didn't chase it for a while due to personal reasons meaning my full attention wasn't on it, but about 2 weeks ago I went into the branch and complained in person. They grovelled and telephoned and sent e-mails on my behalf, but nothing since! Grrrr!0

Letter templates are on the Resource bar above this board...
<table style="border: 1px solid rgb(0, 0, 0);" _base_target="_blank" bgcolor="#f3e7d2" cellpadding="2" width="100%"><tbody _base_target="_blank"><tr _base_target="_blank"><td _base_target="_blank" width="15%">
</td> <td style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;" _base_target="_blank" valign="middle"> The Reclaim Bank Charges Resource Bar</td> </tr> </tbody></table> <table style="border: 1px solid rgb(0, 0, 0);" _base_target="_blank" cellpadding="2" width="100%"> <tbody _base_target="_blank"><tr _base_target="_blank"> </tr> <tr _base_target="_blank"><td style="color: black; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 9pt;" _base_target="_blank"> Step-by-step Guide: Reclaim Unfair Bank Charges Calculator: Charge them interest Template Letters: (right click and save) Ask for charge details, Initial letter, Second letter, Small claims note Article: Top New Bank Account</td> </tr> </tbody></table>
You can accept any offer as part settlement and continue forward for full settlement but its your decision at the end of the day.
As regards waiting for replies, it is up to you to keep a note of the dates that they should have replied by and if they haven't you need to chase it up.0 -
Hi, I have been told this is the place to start regarding Unfair bank charges, i have been reading quite a few articles regarding this and think i'm gonna go for it,
Luckily my wife is one of those people who throws nowt away, i have started looking through my Halifax statements and found over a 1000.00 of charges going back just under 2 years,,
1 question i have is , i'm sure i read that you can only get charged so much a month. all though i could be wrong..
for instance
9 th - 30.00 Charge
10 th - 30.00 "
11 th - 30.00 "
12 th - 30.00 "
16 th - 30.00 "
17 th - 30.00 "
18 th - 30.00 "
23 th - 30.00 "
30 th - 93.00 "
Thanks for any advice.0 -

Hand delivered the first letter with a £10 cheque to my local branch, addressing it to the manager.
Postal reply within 36 hours, confirming that all statements will follow shortly and also got my cheque back - BONUS!
The letter was personally signed by the branch manager... does this mean that if they drag their heels, I now have an actual person to approach?
Mmmmm....
Also been approved for an alternate current account should they decide to spit the dummy out.
Will keep this strand informed of progress as and when.
So just a weel goes by and i recieve the statements i requested - they came 5 at a time, 30 envelopes through the door like it was christmas or something...:rotfl:
been through them and got a total of £1450 which, with interest comes to £1735!!!!!
Sod it. Am gonna ask for the whole lot with interest.
Just as before, the second letter and the interest charge calculator print off are being hand delivered to my own branch tonight.
As before, I will keep you informed of any progress.Still swimming for the surface0 -
First letter off in post, I've been thinking about it for a while and can see from the chat on this site that for the sake of a few letters and a bit of persistance it can pay off, I hope! Not sure of the success rate with the Halifax though, any guidance out there?0

well, ive done it, first letter off in todays post, we sat down the other night and worked out what we were charged in 2005 and we were charged over 1000.00 so goodness knows what it will be for six years. I have been told that having charges affects your credit rating, is this right? Also i have charges on this account totalling 1400.00 (well just under) that i was disputing with them and they had said i had to make an arrangement with them to pay, will this be deleted from the account, if anyone knows id love to hear from you.
many thanks

hi all
.. am in the process of claiming back MY money, but i dont have a cheque book, can i use a cheque that has someone elses name on it?
..... also ...
yesterday I went into my local halifax to try and stop them from taking £38 ... anyways .. the lady told me they are allowed to repay you the 1st 3 times u have a charge then after that they "cannot" aurthorise the repayment, you have to contact head office. not sure if that true or she just "fobbed me off" but she gave me a form to complain to headoffice."Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0 -
just received a letter after my data protection request, confirming that requested statements have been sent under seperate cover, will keep you informed of progress.
A quick question if anyone can advise, do i send my 1st letter claiming charges back to the trinity road halifax address or to my local branch where account held?
Any advice appreciatted!0
