halifax bank charges (merged)

Hi, it seems that Halifax appear to be doing different things with different people. Do you think this is the case ? I sent my letter to them claiming bank charges for £332. They sent me back a letter basically saying don't be silly ! Anyway, sent second letter giving them five days before taking them to county court (all using Martin's templates). They've responded saying that they will be looking into my complaint with a complaints leaflet. It looks from this forum that they have sent that letter to some people as a first response but to me as a second response.......hope this makes sense. Anyone finding the same ? Thanks.0

All the banks are giving different responses to different customers (even if the claim is for the same amount).
In your case..............Once your dealine is up, issue your court claim. Do not be put off or delayed by the bank. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Hi Rex_Mundi. It just seems so odd that the banks do that rather than a standard response. I think my five days are up so will get my self sorted and do an online small claims. Thanks for your response0

they are doing this deliberately. there are two things that have been consistent. firstly the banks (tactical) inconsistent approaches, and crucially secondly, that they have yet to turn up to defend their 'case' for penalty charges in any court claim (to my knowledge).Halifax WON! Claimed £1549 on 8th Jan 2007, Settled for £1350 on 29th Jan, Paid 7th Feb.
MBNA (Virgin / Alliance Credit Card charges): WON! Claimed £419 on 17 March, finally offered £425! on 5 June)
Natwest Credit Card: WON! Claimed £250, got 100% + interest + court costs too.
Northern Rock: Mortgage Discharge Fee: WON! Claimed £100. Offered £90 and accepted it.
Natwest Bank / RBS: WON! Claimed £400. Got 100% + interest + court fees back.

I sent letter asking for charges to refunded at beginning of jan, I received a letter back yesterday saying that a customer relations manager will investigate and I will receive a reply shortly, but no later than 4 weeks, do I just wait for them to contact me again within 4 weeks ?

Hey everyone
This is my 1st post but I have spent the whole day reading through this thread and the success stories thread so I am RARING to go!!! I am going to send a letter Recorded Delivery first thing Monday morning to request the past 6 years' statements.
Question: I have a current account and credit card with the Halifax. And I am sure there are a horrendhous amount of charges incurred! Am I more likely to get a decent offer (if lucky, I know) if I claim for the current account first, and then if successful, do the credit card afterwards? My thinking is if I claim for them both at the same time, it would pee them off and make them more difficult. What do you think?
I am extremely nervous about doing all this but after reading all your posts, I am determined to see it through!
This is a wonderful site and gives me a lot of inspiration! Well done to everyone! :TA cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -

Your chances of success will be the same if you claim for one or both accounts at the same time. The same laws apply. Make sure you set up another account somewhere. Even if you only claim off your bank account, they may ask you to close this if you reclaim. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
